PattayaSweethearts is preparing a new page for lovers of fresh and tasty foods at reasonable prices.
A Shame!
Carrefour: LUX soap 4x80-gram 49 Baht (in big letters announced as promotion!).
Tesco/Lotus sells the same soap, but 4x115-gram for 49 Baht! Dishonest Carrefour? A Scam?
Carrefour: 50% sale during June 25th until 1st of July: DVD Player with an integrated TV-receiver and a 7-inch display from nano announced for 1'445 Baht.
June 25th: Out of stock! June 26th: Out of stock! June 27th: Out of stock! June 28th: Out of stock! June 29th: Out of stock! June 30th: Out of stock! It seems the player never was in stock! But the ads remain in place, everywhere, inside and outside of Carrefour. A scam - or how you call it? Crazy Thiefs
On Soi Photisarn (Naklua) thiefs are stealing men's underpants, on Egmonkol Village 5 (East Pattaya) a thief is stealing expensive bras...
Rotten Apples
Apple Inc. was forced to release an information advising users on how to hold its new iPhone 4.
Instead of placing the antenna inside the phone, Apple decided to integrate it into the case.
Apple is also experiencing an antenna problem with Wi-Fi networking on its iPad.
The problems are the result of poor product design.
Bank Holiday
On July 1st 2010 all bank branches in Thailand will be closed.
The 1st of July marks the middle of the year and is an annual bank holiday, but not a public holiday.
Out of Sugar!
Thailand is a major producer and the second largest exporter of sugar in the world, after Brazil. Nevertheless, sugar has mysteriously disappeared from the shelves of most department stores and convenience stores. The Commerce Ministry doesn't has a satisfactory explanation for the phenomenon.
Thailand's Commerce Ministry controls the price and the distribution of the sugar, but, because of lack of own warehouse storage space, the sugar is stored in warehouses owned by the millers.
It is assumed that sugar is smuggled to neighbouring countries.
And somebody makes a huge profit...
TFC
Thailand Fried Chicken every night at Pattaya Central Road / Second Road intersection.
Not from Kentucky, therefore cheaper and tastier, from 5 to 20 Baht/pc and prepared fresh on the spot.
Must be a goldmine.
From 23:00 - midnight the booth has more customers than its 'big brother' during whole the day. Japanese Foods don't have to be expensive!
Okinawa, a Japanese Restaurant & Snack Bar, opened on Soi Diamond.
The End of Samurai
Samurai Sushi at the ailing Moonlight Complex on 2nd Road closed.
Low Season
Tony's reduced the rent for its shorttime-rooms from 380 to 300 Baht...
Rumor
A rumor says Silver Star 3 A Go-Go on Walking Street will replace its deafening whistles by Vuvuzelas, also known as Lepatata.
South Africa's blowing horn easily reaches a 127 decibels sound level, whereas the bar's current noisemaker measures a lousy 115 decibels only.
The Vuvuzela is the poor man's version of the famous Swiss Alphorn.
A Swiss Alphorn can disperse its sound pattern over 5 to 10km and could be the perfect sound source for a Pratamnak Hill venue or the ailing Soho Square.
An Original Swiss Alphorn, not a Thai or Chinese copy, could be the perfect instrument to arrest attention from Jomtien over Koh Larn and Pattaya until Naklua - and all without demanding any electronics...
Naklua is ahead of the pack!
The first Vuvuzelas are greeting visitors at Naklua's Bars near the Dolphin Roundabout...
New Seafood Restaurant
J Noy is the name of Pattaya's latest Seafood Restaurant located at the Torus Disco Club on Walking Street.
A beautiful new food outlet with a great entry and a spectacular view over Pattaya Bay!
The Monkeys are back
The monkeys are back on Walking Street, but Pattaya Police can't see them!
As soon as officials arrive, the monkeys disappear in big handbags...
... and Pattaya's men in uniforms are happy to report everything ok on Walking Street.
It seems Walking Street's 'security cameras' already learned to close their 'eyes' too.
Fake Thai Money
Pattaya Police are warning Pattaya merchants, tourists and residents of fake 100, 500 and 1'000 Baht notes.
Detecting the fake money is not difficult, but you have to use an ultraviolet lamp, Pattaya Police say.
Fake Water?
Bunsom Yutithampinyo the chief of the water allocation and irrigation for the Chonburi Department of Irrigation, said 'despite the fact that Chonburi's eight reservoirs are down more than 10 percent from a year ago, there will be no shortage of water until August 2010'.
The lovely chief forget to mention that Pattaya's water supply contains a high level of (red) sand, but he not forget to blame El Nino for the problems.
My Lady says: Thanks to the department's water supply containing Red Earth, she doesn't has to buy any skin peeling products anymore. They are already included in Pattaya's tap water.
Rainy Season started
Rainy Season started in Pattaya with heavy rainfalls almost every evening.
And - as every year - great parts of Pattaya disappear in the water for a few hours.
And - as every year - City Hall promises to solve the problem - next year perhaps...
And - as every year - Walking Street's umbrella vendors are coming out of the blue...
Low Low Season
Without the ladies, Pattaya's bars would be empty...
Closed Legs
Legs Club A Go-Go on Soi Pattayaland closed its door. The venue is on the block. Legs Club was the successor of Misty's Club when the later moved to Soi 15, off Walking Street.
New at Markets
You know the Brand
but it isn't!
Carousel closed
Carousel A-Go-Go on Soi Diamond closed.
The Happy A-Go-Go Group bought the club and is revamping it completely.
The company already runs Baccara, Beach Club, Happy A-Go-Go, Pepermint Palace A-Go-Go and The Cavern.
We removed the links to Carousel A-Go-Go's former website on all our pages: The Carousel link redirects now to a rather dubious site.
New Name
My prefered Buffet Restaurant on Soi 1 changed its name but not its management:
Sampan was replaced by The Fish.
The billboard mentioned 169 Baht / person is not correct: The cashier asks 149 Baht only...
Reorientation?
Nok's Bar Complex is looking for Coyote dancers.
By the way:
The Snowice A Go-Go sign at Nok's entry disappeared... Realignment?
Hot Love Pub, a closed Tom Boy club at the ailing Grand Beer Plaza on Pattaya's 2nd Road who lost some of its clients to the new Shela establishment (opposite to Hollywood Disco), is transforming itself into a Go-Go club, addressing the same audiences.
Since the 1st of June we checked the site every 2nd day, but we couldn't spot any construction worker at the location...
Perhaps the owners already shelfed the project. Who knows?
Do you remember?
Do you remember the Fantasy A Go-Go neon sign at the entry to Simons new Bar Complex on Walking Street?
The sign is now advertising a Fantasy Sport Bar at the same location...
Nurses
The Dream Bar on Soi 8 is now full of Coyote dancers, sometimes masqueraded as nurses.
Should you feel bad - that's (perhaps) your place...
On the Block
Nightwish Bar on Soi 6 is on the block.
The Hunter comes
Jägermeister, Germany's famous herbal liqueur, is installing its new signs all over Pattaya.
Struggling
15 per cent of the Thai workforce is employed in the tourism sector - and they are struggling. And this time around, the pain looks set to remain.
Far from Over
The debt crisis in Europe shows that the world's economic woes are far from over. It has raised fears that some eurozone economies will no longer be in a position to repay debts...
Will they ever learn?
On Pattaya's Walking Street we discovered vendors selling Yes We Can - T-Shirts bearing a large printed portrait of Adolf Hitler.
Wordly Wisdom
A Bar Lady told me 'we like Farangs driving big motorcycles. They always guarantee a relaxing sleep. This bikers deflagrate their power on their motorbikes, or somewhere else, but not on - or with - us'.
I am just considering to buy one of these new small but electric bikes that hit some shops on Pattaya's 3rd Road...

Addibas' new GPS Shoes
A researcher at Addibas confirmed NightWalker's rumor about their new Soccer shoes. The secret of the new shoes developed by Addibas Unlimited here in Thailand is a built in GPS module. It directs the shoe automatically in the correct position to the rival's goal.
It is said that Portugal's Soccer team on June 21st played with a prototype of the new shoe. The surprising 7:0 result against North Korea showed the world what it can expect from the next World Cup in 4 years...
Google Foulplay, a new software jointly developed by Google and Apple Inc., is capable to detect any kind of foul, offsite position or goal instantaneously and with a high 99.99% accuracy. It could replace referees in the very near future, the companies say. Referees are still biassing a lot of games with wrong decisions. A spokesman from Google said that the new software can't be fouled by kickbacks. Referees and bookmakers all over the world immediately announced complaints with FIFA®. Sepp(li) Blatter, a Swiss national and the president of the FIFA, immediately dismissed any change in FIFA regulations. 'The FIFA always supported referees realising their own ideas - it's my very own style of life too...', he said. All information published on this page are as accurate as possible, but this one is a joke... Unannounced Culture from the City of the Sea
From June 26th to June 28th an unannounced Culture from the City of the Sea - Festival happened on Pattaya Beach Promenade.
Not even the neighbours had an idea what will happen during these days...
Malibu is Back!
Tina's Malibu Show Bar is back on its former site on Soi Post Office / 2nd Road.
The venue at the entry to Soi 10 closed and is on the block.
World Expo 2020 in Pattaya?
The Pattaya Business and Tourism Association likes the City of Pattaya hosts the World Expo 2020!
Mr. Jumroon Wisawachaipan, the Chairman of the Pattaya Business and Tourism Association, made the proposal to host the World Expo of 2020. He also urged the Thai government to lift the curfew during Pattaya's low season. The curfew, imposed by the Thai government and the CRES (Centre for the Resolution of the Emergency Situation), affected the tourist industry tremendously. Many tourists had cancelled their trips to Thailand because of the curfew, he said.
Mr. Jumroon said City Hall can present the World Expo 2020 Thailand. It is well prepared for such an event because Pattaya is close to the large campus of Thammasart University Pattaya and the Siam Country Club (!). The chairman added that Pattaya is situated only 120 kilometers from Suvanabhumi Airport, 30 kilometers from Pattaya International U-Ta Pao Airport and offers a wide range of accommodations with over 25'000 rooms.
Update: Deputy Prime Minister Suthep Thaugsuban claimed on June 21st that some groups of people were preparing to incite fresh violence after the emergency law in Bangkok and other provinces is lifted and this is why the emergency decree cannot be revoked at the moment. On June 24th Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva said 'I expect the emergency law will be revoked in many areas when its enforcement expires on July 7th'. CRES spokesman Sansern Kaewkamnerd said the same day the invocation of the emergency decree was expected to continue but would probably not cover all 24 provinces. The Thai army is at the peak of its power after playing a key role in security operations to crack down on anti-government protesters last month. Up to 90 people were killed and almost 2'000 were injured between March 12 and May 19. Internet in Thailand
Cyber Censorship in Thailand
Thailand's ICT ministry has so far shut down 43'000 websites deemed to be defamatory to the royal institution, the ministry says.
Other sources claim that Thailand is blocking at least 113'000 websites and that the emergency law enforcers at CRES (Centre for the Resolution of the Emergency Situation) are adding at least 500 more sites per day...
Internet service providers will face legal action and have their licences withdrawn if they refuse to cooperate with the government to block websites, Thailand's ICT Minister Juti Krairiksh said on June 17th 2010.
The Renaissance of a former Hotel
In our February News we wondered why an only 28-month old hotel got demolished. Now we have the answer to this 'phenomenon': The owners of the Honey Inn transformed the hotel into a Body Massage Parlour.
In a few weeks time Soi 11, also known as Soi Honey, will have two massage parlours you can choose from: The Culture Club near the entry to 2nd Road and the new Honey Body Massage in the middle between 2nd Road and Soi Buakhaow. Pit says: Thai Culture lives up in Honey.
The all new Taste of Peppermint
On June 10th the all new Peppermint A-Go-Go opened on Walking Street on the first floor at Marine Disco. The Peppermint Palace A Go-Go on the second floor of the same building closed.
Baywatch City Pattaya
Let's hope Pattaya's highly skilled baywatchers know at least the basics of a lifeguard - and are not only an advertising stunt.
The all new Pattaya Promenade Feeling
City Hall installed floodlights along the whole 3kms of its Pattaya Beach Promenade. They are lighting up almost every corner of Pattaya's famous 'Catwalk'. Since a few days 'you can see what you get', even during the nights!
Update: On June 20th 2010 Pattaya's famous catwalk was fully in the dark from Walking Street down to Mike Shopping Mall...
City Hall invested 56 million Baht into the 38 towering lamps and their integrated 'Big Brother is Watching You'-security-cameras.
Question:
Why Pattaya has a Beach Promenade?
Completely closed Pattaya Beach Promenade: Please walk on the deadly Beach Road! Answer: Because Western Resorts also have one, but it seems that Pattaya City Hall hasn't the slightest idea why people like promenades.
City Hall not only is using the promenade as a free water storage unit after more or less heavy rain, its surface is a more than 3-kilometer long 'patchwork' with integrated stumbling blocks. Moreover, as on the picture above, City Hall is forcing pedestrians out of the promenade, urging them to walk on the dangerous Beach Road.
Sometimes the stupidity of City Hall's officials is hard to top: They will never unterstand that Farangs as well as other tourists like to walk - safely.
Link for officials: Wikipedia: Esplanade - Promenade. According to Wikipedia and other sources a promenade can be anywhere, but it is exclusively for walking...

Buy 1 Get 1 Free
The Buy 1 Get 1 Free scheme is an enormous success at every shopping center in Thailand. Therefore it's no wonder that some bars adopted the idea too: Buy 1 drink, get another one free.
The only thing I don't understand:
Why the scheme is restricted to drinks and doesn't include the ladies too...
A Go-Go closed
A Go-Go on 2nd Road closed
Hottie's Club at Smile's Avenue, across from Mike Shopping Mall on Pattaya's 2nd Road, shut down the lights and closed the door.
The club was announced first as a coyote club, but changed the format later to a (would be) A Go-Go Bar.
The venue is on the block. If you are interested in, please call 081 923 2932.

Property in Pattaya
Don't get fooled!
Before you buy any condo keep in mind that Thai citizens can buy 64 - 80 sq.m. town houses for as little as 800'000 Baht - even in Pattaya! Almost all buildings in Pattaya, small and big ones, town houses and condominiums, are built using 7 cm 'strong' walls (bricks or Ytong-blocks). They transmit not only every vibration from a fixed ventilator or a speaker system but almost every other kind of noise into your room. These walls also transfer every single sunbeam into heat. Placing plants or trees in front of the walls can help to reduce the heat significantly. At a condo this is almost impossible. You have to live with an air-conditioner. Air-conditioner are cheap to buy, but they use a lot of electricity - between 2'000 and 6'000 Baht a month at a small apartment! My average electricity bill is between 400 and 500 Baht a month. About 150 Baht/month I have to pay for water, including the about 20 liters my plants are asking for every day. Cable TV costs another 200 Baht/month. Renting a Horn Thew, I don't have to climb staircases and I don't have to walk through dark and dirty corridors. In your country it takes a few hours only to replace a faulty neon lamp, in Thailand it needs a few days or weeks - assumed you can contact the housemaster... Be Careful
These pictures show what can happen if you invest in unfished projects. All these building were announced in big letters as 'sound financed and sound investments'. The owners also advertised 'Construction already started'. Yes, the construction started and even ended, but never finished.

The Soccer Teams in South Africa are not very different from the Farangs here in Pattaya:
Most are happy with one single shot a day.

Inspiring Game
After the game between Portugal and Brasil, Pattaya's Boystown Association decided to invite both teams to Soi Pattayaland: No other participants in the World Cup played such an inspiring game, the boys explained enthusiastically.
The Boystown Association is now searching a sponsor for that event.

Motorized Football
Toyota, Suzuki, Kawasaki, Yamaha and Mitsubishi already announced that during the next World Cup they will play in Japan's soccer team too. It's unfair that Japan's Football Association only gave Honda the chance to play during the 2010 World Cup, the companies said.
