The former Janyaporn shoe & toy shop, located between Soi Diamond and the P72 Bar & Restaurant made space for another 7-Eleven shop on Walking Street.

Wedded
BigC & Carrefour
Since January 21st 2011 BigC & Carrefour are one big family.
At least according to Carrefour's latest leaflets.
The executive vice president for BigC said that 'although the signs on the former rival's stores will be changed over the next few months, the merchandise inside will remain the same as before. Our aim is to win over Carrefour customers' hearts and keep them shopping there.'

Sapphire Website
Sapphire A Go-Go
Sapphire A Go-Go on Soi 15, off Walking Street, opened its own Website. The site has a healthy-sized photo and video gallery; information and photos of Sapphire's 2nd-floor Party Room and its penthouse VIP Suite.

Traffic Lights
Traffic Lights
On some days Pattaya's expensive, new and famous traffic lights for pedestrians are working during the night, on other days during daytime only. If not active almost all signals are blinking in yellow.
Nevertheless, the buzzer is beeping whole the day, giving the wrong impression that the installation is working...

Caramel at the Bali Hai Entertainment Complex announces it is not only a restaurant, a bar and a strip hall but also a lounge café. You have to create a lot of ideas to attract possible customers...

I am the GREATEST!

LimaLima, also located at the Bali Hai Entertainment Complex, claims to be Pattaya's biggest club.
The new venue opened its door on January 6th, 2011.

Bartimes closed
Bartime's, the Bar and Restaurant at Walking Street's Absolute Entertainment Complex, closed during January 2011.

Ferrari & Co.
from China
At Tukcom's second floor some boothes are selling Ferrari, BMW & Porsche mobile phones.
All phones are originally made in Tschin Daeng (Red China), but without a permission of their Trade Mark owners.
The phones are overpriced too!
The cheapest Ferrari phone costs about 2'500 Baht and is a bad copy of a Samsung foldable phone, usually sold here for 900 - 1'080 Baht!
Be careful - the custom's officials in your country 'like' them too!

Closed again!
Moulin Rouge closed
On January 5th Moulin Rouge as well as Motoroom on Walking Street closed the doors. No touts on the street and the staircase in the dark.
Motoroom closed
On January 6th the clubs opened again with the touts from Moulin Rouge in golden clothes...
Just another case to keep tab on...

On the block
Powers on the block
The failed Powers A Go-Go on Walking Street and Ezy on Soi BJ, off Walking Street, are now on the block.
Ezy on the block

Scam à la Carrefour:
Carrefour sells a 12pcs multipack of 1.5 liter bottles of Coke for 294 Baht (= 24.5 Baht/bottle).
If you buy one single bottle of the same beverage in the very same bottle at the very same Carrefour you have to pay 23.5 Baht only!
Therefore: Carrefour's multipack is at least 12 Baht to expensive and anything else but the announced bargain!

New Year Price Hike!
Carrefour sells its 6 liter bottle of mineral Water for 34 Baht, up from 30.50 Baht.
During the old year the discounted price for Ovaltine was 108 Baht. Since the new year you have to pay 118 Baht!
More surcharges expected, but not always justified...

Google doesn't like
Google doesn't like to see the reality.

On January 15th 2011 we got an e-mail from Google telling us that we are violating its advertisement policy:
As stated in our program policies, AdSense publishers are not permitted to place Google ads on pages with adult or mature content. This includes images or video content containing lewd or provocative poses, or close-ups of breasts, butts, or crotches.
Please make any necessary changes to your webpages in the next 72 hours, Google demanded.
After a short discussion with our contributors Rainbow Production decided not to scrap the pictures and the information but to clear all its websites from Google advertisements. Pattaya-at-Night never published lewd pictures. On every beach in and around Pattaya you can discover more flesh than on all of our pages.
The daily SMS Fraud.
The daily SMS Fraud

If you are using a Mobile Phone in Thailand be careful and check your account almost daily.
If you get SMS messages from sources like Special, Privilege4U or any other forwarder with a hidden phone number contact your provider immediately and ask the company to stop the messages.
All messages are written in Thai, only the senders name appear in english.
In our case the sender of the SMS' withdraws 13 Baht every single day from our account without any authorisation!
TrueMove, our provider, told us they need 1 full week to block the sender(s)!
On most Mobile Phones it's impossible to block junk, scam or simply undesirable mails yourself.
If you don't refile your account, you will receive every day one or more 12Rasi0 message(s) telling you Sorry your credit is not enough for this service. Pls top up first.
12Rasi0 is an automatic message generated by the Remote Access Subscriber Interface of your provider. It also suggests that you tried to make a connection. In our case the message is generated every morning at 06:30, a time we all are sleeping...
Another possible scam: Some of today's phones allow to receive a service called Browser Message. This service is often used to send spam mails and to download (unwanted) scripts to your mobile phone as well as to withdraw money from your account.
Usually you can disable this function in the Browser Message Setup.

The question remains: How the offenders get the phone numbers?
According to sources close to a mobile phone designer & manufacturer, most information come from the providers themself. Mobile phone numbers usually are not published in telephone directories. The same source said, that mobile phone providers are not interested that their customers can block SMS messages themself.
No Extention of Pattaya's Closing Time!
Pattaya remains Pattaya (and not Insomnia!)
Thailand's Deputy Minister of Justice informed Pattaya's City Hall, Police, entertainment venue Representatives and the Tourist Business Association on Thursday afternoon, January 20th 2011, of Bangkok's verdict regarding closing times of entertainment venues in Pattaya. The Deputy Minister said that the Goverment's Entertainment Act B.E. 2509 (1966) already fixed the closing time clearly and the Justice Ministerial Regulations must be followed strictly, as before.

Really? As strictly as before...?
Happy New Year!

Pattaya Police
Chasing the Unprotected only?
Chasing the unorganized!
No action!
No action!
Pattaya Police turns a blind eye to the illegally occupied parking lots on Pattaya's Beach Road.

The small street vendors provide cheap and tasty food for Pattaya's hard working citizen. Nevertheless, almost every day Pattaya's Police is chasing this popular costermongers.
But since many years Pattaya's Police turns a blind eye to the motorcycle taxis and the motorcycle lenders that are (illegally) occupying almost all parking lots in front of Beach Road's shopping areas.
The motorcycle taxis and the lenders are organized and powerful like Italian's Mafia. The street kitchen people are unprotected and therefore an easy prey for Pattaya's Police.
No action!
The Land of the Free?
Thailand only Partly Free...
According to Freedom in the World 2011, the latest edition of Freedom House's annual survey of global political rights and civil liberties, conditions worsened for the fifth consecutive year in 2010. While the decline for the year was less extensive than in some years past, the multiyear spate of backsliding is the longest of its kind since Freedom in the World was first published in 1972.
Freedom in the World says the increasing truculence of the world's most powerful authoritarian regimes has coincided with a growing inability or unwillingness on the part of the world's democracies to meet the authoritarian challenge, with important consequences for the state of global freedom.
Freedom in the World downgraded Thailand from Free to Partly Free.
Thailand received a downward trend arrow due to the use of violence in putting down street protests in April and May 2010, and the coercive use of lèse-majesté laws and emergency powers to limit freedom of expression and personal autonomy.

Thailand's War on Drugs
Nationwide police crackdowns on drugs
During a nationwide police crackdown on drugs from December 21st 2010 until January 5th 2011 Thailand's Police searched 4'655 communities nationwide.
During the raids the police arrested 21'130 suspects for drug offences and seized more than 1.6 million methamphetamine pills, 295kg of marijuana, 8.5kg of crystalised methamphetamine (known as ice), and heroin.
Five suspected dealers were arrested in four major cases, one of them was Pol Sr Sgt-Maj Pairote. He was arrested with 120'000 speed pills in his car. Two women of Burmese origin were arrested with 300'000 methamphetamine pills in Pathum Thani. In Lat Phrao area (Bangkok) police arrested a 25-year old Thai man with 100'000 speed pills at a patrol station. In Chiang Mai a 25-year old Thai was arrested with 3'000 speed pills.
Most of the drugs were smuggled across the border into northern Thailand.
In a spectacular operation on January 5th 2011 a 350-person strong Pattaya Police shut down almost all bars on Pattaya's popular Soi 6. Police blocked first both ends of the Soi. Then the police checked over 500 workers for drugs in a mobile drugs testing van. 16 (other sources mentions 24) women and hybrids were arrested and later charged with consuming a class 1 drug. Not enough to fill up the two large prisoner transport wagons the police demonstratively placed on the Soi. No actual drugs were found in the raid.
During the same day Pattaya Police arrested 8 suspected drug users in South Pattaya and seized 6.55g of Ice and 4½ Yahba Tablets.
On Tuesday Night, January 4th, Pattaya Police already arrested two local drug dealers. Both had been released recently from Prison...
On January 11th Police arrested a 41-year old Thai woman as well as eight other people associated with her and conficated 430 Yahbah tablets, bottles of Ketamine and crystal methamphetamine (ice).
On January 12th 2011 Banglamung Police arrested 3 Thai males selling Yahbah and marijuana on Pattaya's streets.

During Pattaya's Countdown 2011 we lost one of our cameras after NightWalker tried to capture a picture at the Thai DJ Community 'Dance Hall' on Pattaya Beach Promenade, just in front of Mike Shopping Mall. He pointed the camera into the laser beam, which destroyed the image sensor of the camera.

Money Maker
Money Maker

Haute Culture?
During last September's London Fashion Week, Lagerfeld, Westwood & Co. told the mass media that the time of cheap clothes has definitely gone.
It seems this people already knew that they have to pay higher wages to their closemakers. Many of your clothes come from Bangladesh, where the minimum monthly wage was about US$ 25 until the end of November 2010. After protests of the workers the companies had to rise the wages to US$ 45/month. Here in Thailand the minimum wages are between US$ 150 and US$ 200, but most clothes for Thailand are now made in Cambodia.
The ex-factory price for a simple T-shirt is about 20 Baht (66 US cents!).
Single color shirts (and short pants) start at Pattaya markets at about 39 Baht, multicolored ones at 59 Baht.
What you learned? The money makers aren't located in Bangladesh, Cambodia or Thailand! They scoop up and are lamenting in your country!

Technology News
The universal mobile phone charger
Apple, Emblaze Mobile, Huawei Technologies, LGE, Motorola Mobility, NEC, Nokia, Qualcomm, RIM (BlackBerry), Samsung, Sony Ericsson, TCT Mobile (Alacatel), Texas Instruments and Atmel have signed up to a new universal mobile phone charger standard based on the micro-USB connector.
The first chargers produced to the EC specifications are expected to be available in early 2011, but the specs only applies to smartphones...
China already has urged the manufacturers to standardise their connectors for mobile phones. The Chinese standard is based on a USB connector too.

The tablet PC buzz is expected to die down in 2011, analysts say.
Working on a scratched and dirty display isn't fun.
Next Windows will support ARM & Intel based processors
The next version of Windows will run on ARM-based processors from Nvidia Corp., Qualcomm Inc. and Texas Instruments Inc., as well as x86 architecture products from Intel Corp. and Advanced Micro Devices Inc.
No Bargains
in Thailand!
Don't think to find bargains for Cameras or Computers in Thailand.
Even products manufactured in Thailand, as some digital cameras from well-known Japanese brands, are more expensive here than in the USA or in most European countries.
e.g.: A HP Mini 210 Netbook cost 12'990 Baht in Thailand (DOS operating system, no Windows!).
In your country you will get the same computer for the same price but including an original Windows 7 Starter Pack!
New Tablet PCs
RIM's PlayBook tablets are produced by Quanta Computer, Motorola's Xoom tablets by Compal Electronics.
Both manufacturer are located in Taiwan, but run production sites in China.
RIM (Reseach In Motion) is known as the designer of BlackBerry phones.
On the move...
HP (Hewlett-Packard) has switched some of its netbook orders for Flextronics International back to Quanta Computer.
Both manufacturer are located in Taiwan, but run production sites in China.
HP is expected to ship about 500'000-700'000 netbooks in the first quarter of 2011. It will begin to ship its new netbooks from Quanta starting May 2011.
The Flyer
HTC plans to launch three tablet PCs in the first half of 2011. The first will be named The Flyer. It looks like an enlarged version of HTC's Desire smartphone and will run on Android.
New iPad
Apple will start mass producing its next-generation iPad 2 at the end of February 2011. The new iPad 2 will have an improved display. The resolution will be a healthy 2048 x 1536 pixels.
Pico-Projector #1
Himax Technologies announced the world's first USB 3.0 pico-projector solution. It combines a SVGA (800 by 600) high-resolution LCOS microdisplays with a USB 3.0 chip.
Using USB 2.0, higher-resolution videos are simply impossible without resulting in delays and skipping during playback. Therefore both sides, the projector as well as the computer, need a USB 3.0 port.
Pico-Projector #2
Rumors circulating around the market that the Apple iPhone 5 will adopt a pico projector...
