Bedrace
This small banner announced the Pattaya International Bedrace all over Pattaya. The funny and popular Charity Event happened on January 29th 2012 on Pattaya Beach Road.
But most spectators attended the event by 'accident' - and why?
Pattaya City Hall is a Co-Organizer of the event and is known for its Last-Minute announcements. Its highly skilled officials are not capable - or too stupid - to produce an event calendar as you know it from almost every other tourist destination in this world.
Warning!
Since January 11th 2012 Pattaya Police not only check the ladies sitting on Pattaya's Beach Promenade but also the Farangs enjoying the fresh breeze coming from the sea.
How long it will take until Pattaya Police will fine the first Farang for sitting on the beach? And how much he will have to pay? 100 Baht or 1'000?
myLady™ usually needs a lot of words to describe a situation, but for the behaviour of Pattaya's Police she needs one single word: Dting-Dtong! Pooh
A recent poll reveals that only 3.25% of Thailand's citizien trust the government's anti-graft agencies...
Funny
Consumer Protection On January 13th Officers of the Consumer Protection Police Division from Bangkok(!) conducted a raid of two small shops at the Grand Hall Market in South Pattaya.
According to complaints on an internet chat forum the shops failed to display prices for items at the respective shops. That's an offence and therefore the officers confiscated everything on display.
If this would be the real reason for the raid, about 50% of Pattaya's shops will be emptied in the near future, even at Pattaya's most prestigious shopping centers.
And who takes care of all that wrong pricing in Pattaya's Supermarket? The same Consumer Protection Police Division from Bangkok?
We offer our condolences to dtac
At the end of December 2011 Thailand's second largest mobile phone provider dtac started replacing its Siemens/Nokia based broadband network with Ericsson's latest technology.
The update failed!
The new network's throughput is a lot less than 50% of the former transmission speed and is fluctuating. On dtac's so called High Speed 3G internet we get now download speeds of 5 (!) to about 200 kbps! That's Ericsson High Tech in Thailand!
A real mess!
We don't know if the problem is part of Ericsson's 'latest technology' or a result of Thailand's highly skilled workforce.
We recommend dtac to immediately reactivate the Siemens/Nokia hardware until the problem with the new network is solved.
Update #1: On January 6th dtac's 3G runs with a constant download speed of about 390kbps, roughly the double of dtac's EDGE transmission, but a lot less than before - and unfortunately the connection still collapse completely after a few minutes. Update #2: Since January 7th same disaster as before: Download speeds near zero (below 60kbps!)....
Update #3: On January 7th a spokesman from dtac has announced a temporary suspension of the upgrade. He said that it was all down to improbable odds rather than mismanagement or incompetence.
DTAC CEO Jon Eddy Abdullah said his technical people and Ericsson's are now confident that they understand the root cause of the outage.
Update #4: Since January 14th dtac's network runs with a constant download speed of about 380kbps and without any interruption. That's not only faster but also a lot more reliable than its competitors.
Update #5: Since the very early hours of January 17th dtac's network runs again at unacceptable download speeds (20-100kbps).
According to industry insiders 3G is a mature technology. It runs in most countries - even in Laos and Cambodia - without problems. Therefore the problems here must be based on Thailand's 'misunderstanding' of today's technology. It's a fact that dtac's mobile 3G internet worked perfectly until the people started the update. The Question
'Where are the Farangs?'
'Isn't he with you?'
Disco Boom
There are at least 6 new Discos announced for Pattaya: The Idol and the Fusion Club opened during the second weekend of January and Fair Food on Walking Street opened its new Latino Café just a day later.
Soho Square announced the opening of another 3 Disco Clubs and Lima-Lima at Bali Hai is enlarging its premises.
We are already prepared to report some closures during low seasons...
What happens at Covent Garden?
Until last weekend this was the neon sign from Relaxx A Go-Go...
Irany's sign on Soi 16, off Walking Street, had to come down too...
Guugle now with Coyote Dancers
Guugle Show on Walking Street already changed the format. The club is now featuring (female) Coyote Dancers.
Russian Karaoke
On Walking Street and across from Soho Square the Sabai Club opened. It's a Russian Karaoke Bar with a large terasse to overlook the sea.
New Disco
On Monday January 16th the Fusion Disco and Konfusion Club opened on Pattaya's Second Road in North Pattaya.
The new venues are located in the rooms of the former Triangle Club at the Alcazar Cabaret Complex. A few month ago Alcazar moved its Triangle Club to the locations of the failed Kung Yiab Nam Restaurant to make space for the new club and disco.
The entrance is free to the Konfusion Club, but to join the Fusion Disco and its Coyote Dancers you have to pay 300 Baht. The management announced that the venues will be open every day from 22:00 until late.
New Dance Café
Fair Food on Walking Street opened its Latino Dance Café with comfortable escalators for its Russian customers.
Moving Kebabs
The famous Michael Kebab booth left Carrefour/BigC Extra! You can taste Michael's Kebab now at Tukcom's Foodcourt in South Pattaya.
Anna Kebap replaces Michael's Kebab at BigC Extra! - but - as a regular customer - you will remember the faces...
Burapha Week
Pattaya's popular Burapha Bike Week will happen on February 10th and 11th 2012 at the National Indoor Sports Stadium in Jomtien.
The Baby Booms again
During our Tour the Pattaya we observed to our surprise that Baby Boom A Go-Go was open on January 10th and that some sexy ladies used the poles to attract customers, but if you have a closer look the ladies are boys...
During the last days of December 2011 Polo 'Striptis On Stage' at the struggling Absolute Entertainment Complex on Walking Street had to close.
The recently opened Eazy Room A Go-Go located on Soi 15 got dark again.
The Fortune Restaurant on the second floor of the likewise ailing Siren Square at the entry to Walking Street closed too.
The end of January 2012 was also the end of the Club B4 on Soi Diamond. The club had a short life. It re-opened during November 2011.
Coming Soon!
Soho Square announces that a Blues Lounge will open during January 2012 and a SubWay Sandwich booth during February 2012.
But as you can see from the picture above, photographed on January 24th 2012, the venues are far from being ready...
3 new Discos?
WSC, the World Super Clubs Organisation from Soho Square, announces that 3 more discos will 'open soon' in addition to the already running Irany and Flexx Discos and the coming Blues Lounge and SubWay Sandwich Shop at the same location.
Lek's Classroom
Lek's Classroom Bar, a once popular bar at the now demolished Soi 2 Bar Complex, opened at the new Center One Plaza across from Alcazar.
Lek's Classroom Bar is the second venue at the otherwise mostly empty 'shopping complex'.
The bar features some hot Coyote dancers too.
Honey Pot
The former Honey Pot Club on Soi 2 is now integrated in Lek's Classroom A Go-Go on the same street. The Coyotes are dancing 'in front' of the Go-Gos...
The Avenue, once touted by NightWalker as Pattaya's most beautiful Shopping Center, almost died out.
All attempts to revive the center and to attract new businesses for the empty shops failed until today.
We recommend to fill up the rooms with Bars, Discos, A Go-Go Clubs and a Beer Garden - or to invite all of Pattaya's motorcycle distributors to open shops and maintenance centers.
Cheap Charly Tip
Allex's Cheap Charly drinks on Soi New Plaza seem to be such a success that the Celtic Kings Bar on Soi 7 adopted the idea.
Celtic Kings are offering SangSom based drinks mixed with Coke for 20 Baht, but on Tuesdays and Thursdays only.
SangSom, by many called 'Thai Whisky', is in reality a Rum, enriched with finely selected herbs and spices. SangSom is Thailand's largest selling spirits brand - and one of its cheapest.
Boom Boom
Boom Boom is the name of the Thai Pub and Restaurant replacing Luna-La on Pattaya's Third Road.
PS: We just learned that the new pub isn't a restaurant but a restauRENT...
Update: During the second weekend of January the venue changed its name to La-La (in englisch: Let's play!).
Obviously the management realised that the target customers like to speak a better Thai and doesn't use Pattaya's bar slang...
Nevertheless, Let's go La-La means about the same, but its sounds a lot nicer - do you agree?
Perhaps you can improve your Thai vocabulary too and ask your lady next time do we go la-la?
She will understand immediately. She is using exactly the same words with her boyfriend.
Multi-Pack à la BigC
Usually you can buy Coke's 1.5 litre bottle for 24 Baht at BigC, Tesco/Lotus and Tops Super. But between Christmas and New Year BigC launched a special promotion: 12 bottles for 294 Baht 'only'
(=24.5 Baht/bottle). myLady™ said: We don't buy! Multi-Pack à la Tesco/Lotus
Since a few days Tesco/Lotus North Pattaya sells a 4x80grams pack of Vaseline Soaps for 39 Baht only,
but a 4x115 grams of the same soaps for 65 Baht.
Make the calculation and you will see that you pay 9 Baht to much for the large one!
PS: During the first week of January 2012 I could buy the large pack for 49 Baht only at Tesco/Lotus South Pattaya: That was a bargain but not the ones mentioned above!

Pattaya News Flash January 2012 - The Source
Start the New Year with The Holstee Manifesto
Itthiphol Kunplome's stupid dream is back
According to a Mr. Vishnu Palayanon, a chairman of Pattaya's Strategic Advisory Board, Pattaya could be the second city after Bangkok to experience a modern transport system using over head trains. He explained that Pattaya's monorail project need to start in the next quarter and will take three years to finish at a cost of 6 to 8 billion Baht...
A lot of money to feed some privileged mouthes.
The advisor forgot to mention that Chiang Mai Zoo already runs a monorail...
NightWalker and his Crew still believe that traveling by the projected monorail transportation system will be a lot more expensive than a Baht Bus ride and will not be as comfortable as promised by our Mayor and his consultants! As a Thai, Pattaya's Mayor should know that his compatriots don't like to walk. That means that every single train station will attract a bunch of new Baht busses and motorcycle taxis. They will congest Pattaya's street even more. During January 2011 Bangkok's Designated Areas for Sustainable Tourism Administration (Dasta) told Itthiphol Khunpluem, the Mayor of Pattaya, Pattaya's repositioning as a tourist destination has to go ahead without Itthiphol's dream toy, his Monorail. But as can be seen, lucrative ideas never die. Progressive Pattaya
Restrooms on the Beach
On December 14th Pattaya's progressive City Council decided to install an adequate number of public restrooms along Pattaya's famous Beach.
City Hall said it has hired a private company to construct modern, international-standard public toilets. The company also has to present a business model on how to collect usage fees.
We hope that City Hall doesn't forgot that even restrooms need some kind of maintenance.
Disorganized Pattaya
Unreadable Publications on City Hall's Website
Until a few days before Pattaya's Countdown started, City Hall didn't mention the event with a single word. The lovely ladies from City Hall's Call Center told us that the officials forgot to put the information on the website.
When they corrected their misadventure they published an unreadable plan of activities.
Moreover, Pattaya's Mayor Itthiphol Kunplome, his two brothers and his officials are not even capable to publish a correct plan: The Countdown Event Calendar informed the people that there will be a daily firework from 20:30 until 20:40. In reality the Firework started daily at about 22:00!
If you consult Pattaya's Website for information about Pattaya's next important events, like the Burapa Bike Week or Pattaya's International Music Festival you will find NO information...
Between December 25th and December 31st we checked a lot of famous as well as small tourist destinations around the world. They all already published their event calendars for the year 2012 on their respective websites. It seems that Big Mouth Pattaya is not even capable to produce a simple event calendar for its (self claimed) five million tourists. It's a shame!
Chonburi's Senator Surachai Chaitrakulthong is luring potential investors from Taiwan and other countries by promising 'Thailand's plus is the availability of a skilled workforce'.
The contrary is true, Thailand's problem is the lack of a skilled workforce.

New on Soi Phettrakun
Pattaya's new Showcase opened its Big Eyes on Soi Phettrakun, just behind North Pattaya's BigC Shopping Center. Almost every evening its large parking area is fully occupied by colorful busses loaded with tourists from all over Asia. I don't know if they are visiting the show spontaneously or if the show is simply included in their respective tour packages.
Hollywood Karaoke, a beautiful building and located just behind Pattaya's famous Hollywood Disco seems to be ready for take off, but is still in the dark. Perhaps the management should contact Big Eye's tour operator(s)...
Cozy Lisa
In front of the new Cozy Bar (Second Road, North Pattaya) the Lisa Bar will entertain its customers with a 'Sexy Coyoty Dance Show', its new banner tells.

Mayor's Blah-Blah
In our August 2011 Newsflash we reported about the Jet Ski scams.
Pattaya Mayor Itthiphol Khunpluem and his officials promised to move against this criminals, but as expected, nothing really happened since then.
The scams continue:
Read about the latest Pattaya Jet Ski incident and City Hall failure to regulate jet skis costs Ukrainian tourists 30'000 Baht!

The energy our sun despatches to the earth during one single day would be enough to power our world all the year long.
And where the sun gets that 'renewable' energy from? From nothing - our scientists say!

The Battle starts during October 2012
The tablet battle for market share will start in the second half of the year when Apple ships its new iPad in October, about the time when Microsoft releases its Window 8 and Intel unveils its Clover Trail-W platform.
Apple will have to compete also with a bunch of Android-, Wintel- or WoA (Windows on ARM)-based tablet PCs announced to be released in the fourth quarter of 2012.
And don't forget Google: The company will launch a Google branded tablet PC during April 2012, rumors say...
