Pattaya's sub-standard Fire Rescue Units in Trouble
On May 23rd a short circuit in a cable junction occurred on a slip road leading from the Central Pattaya to Sukhumvit Road. The incident developed into a fire.
People who were at the scene suggested the response by Fire Rescue Units was particularly slow and they appeared unable to put out the fire in a speedy manner.
Some onlooker suggested the Fire Rescue Units used sub-standard equipment.
It's Pattaya: The taxpayer's money goes into stupid projects to fill up the pockets of some influent people.

Sleeping Officials?
Sleeping Officials?
On May 16th Thailand's Meteorological Department issued a warning for people in the North, Northeast and East and western parts of the South to prepare for widespread scattered rain and the danger of floods from Wednesday to Friday.
The storm already hit Pattaya on Tuesday, May 15th at about 22:00...

Rumour
Original Pattaya Life Jacket
If the stormy weather should continue to threaten Pattaya, City Hall is ready to distribute Life Jackets to its citizens, at least if they promise to support Pattaya's Mayor Itthiphol Kunplome with their votes on June 17th 2012, a rumour tells.
Tourists can get Life Jackets too - if they pay for them. 9'999 Baht for the Original, 4'999 Baht for a licenced Copy, 2'999 Baht for a famous Pattaya Copycat Life Jacket.
At Tesco/Lotus you can buy your Life Jacket for 599 Baht.

New Website
New Website
Pattaya City Hall renovated its Website. It provides a lot more information, some even in englisch! Check it!

It's event calendar is still empty, but the site lists some of Pattaya's Festivals. Obviously City Hall's most popular event: The Bed Race. It's listed 2 times!

Election Campaign
Everybody in the government has to support our Mayors election campaign, including our busy Police Organisations:
On Monday May 7th our District Officers locked down Soi 6, conducted license checks and tested the urine from the bars employees.
On Wednesday May 9th more than 100 District Licensing Officials and civil defence volunteers visited the Sunee Plaza Entertainment area in South Pattaya and blocked the area for the very same reason.
On May 8th, 10th and the following nights the Police paid visits to Pattaya's Beach Promenade.
On May 10th District Officials set-up a checkpoint inside Soi Khopai and arrested 60 people for drug offences.
During this week the Banglamung Police, Chonburi Provincial Police and the Narcotics Suppression Bureau also visited high crime areas and arrested a total of 32 people.
On May 11th District Officers and their volunteers visited Naklua and conducted drug tests and motorcycles near Soi Photisarn.
On May 15th Pattaya Police collected 14 women and 6 Ladyboys on Beach Road.
On May 17th Police transported 28 ladies and 13 'would be ladies', so called 'Hybrids' in a completely overloaded Pick-up to Soi 9.
The involuntarily visitors got registered and had to pay 100 Baht/each for the jaunt.
At least 6'100 Baht for the Police...
A lot of work for Itthiphol Kunplome's involuntarily 'election workers'...
The 'nightmare' will happen until June 17th, Pattaya's election day.

Thai Army killed
Thailand's DSI (the Department of Special Investigation) said on May 17th 2012 that State Authorities may be responsible for the deaths of at least 25 people during the 2010 political mayhem. The DSI is investigating into 89 deaths resulting from the military crackdown on red shirt protesters in April and May of 2010.

Thai Army about Democracy
General Prayuth said Thais had yet to learn what real democracy was, and might have to go through some pain before learning their lesson.

Intrigue and Injustice
Thailand's political landscape since the September 2006 coup has been shaped by intrigue and injustice, mainly supported by Bangkok's Elite, Thailand's Military and Abhisit Vejjajiva's "Democratic" Party.

Smoke free Pattaya?
To comply with Thailand's anti-smoking legislation, Baht Buses and other public areas such as Bus Stops, Phone Booths and Libraries are now non-smoking areas.
Smokers in such areas will only be warned during the first few weeks of the campaign, but officials say that fines and even arrests may occur in the future.
No information when the future in Pattaya begins...

Pattaya Police blame
The local Police Divisions said they were not happy because of the major traffic congestion problems reported throughout the Pattaya area during the festival.
Police want better organized preparation meetings between Police and the organizers with more Police on-duty.
Police also blamed City Hall and the GMM-Grammy Company for lack of communication.
Police are confident that future events will not encounter problems faced during last weekends Festival - but perhaps new ones...
Pattaya News Flash discovered a lot, or even too much, Police Officers during the Festival, at least on Pattaya Beach Road and on the Loma Turnabout in North Pattaya, but they were in the mood to entertain themself...

Choosy Officials?
In the morning hours of May 1st Pattaya Police beset Pattaya's Beach Promenade to arrest real and fake ladies to collect the usual 100 Baht (or more) at their Soi 9 office.
As usual the gruffly officials ignored the many (and well-known) drug dealers at the same location, fully ignoring that Thailand's Ministry of Interior ordered Pattaya officials to comply with its plan to combat illegal narcotics distribution and use...
Stupidity can't be replaced, it's native.

Intelligent Officials?
The Region 2 Child and Women Protection Unit in association with the Social Development and Human Security Department of Pattaya announced (!) they are preparing an operation to clear South Pattaya entertainment areas of street beggars and all forms of human trafficking involving Thai and foreign nationals who work in the area...
Stupidity can't be replaced, it's native.

Speed Limit
On Thailand's expressways speed during rainfall is limited at 80km/h, under normal conditions, vehicles must not exceed the limit of 120km/h.
Nevertheless, there are always some people trying to drive their cars to their limits.
But it usually needs an serious accident killing a high caliber person until Thailand's Police take action.
After a high-speed crash involving three cars, a Mazda, a Toyota Fortuner and a Porsche, on the Don Muang tollway in Bangkok's Lak Si district on April 27th Thailand's Transport Ministry has ordered more rigorous control of the speed limit on expressways and motorways: The son of a former minister was killed. The Police detected the speed dial on the Porsche showed the car was driving at 280km/h...

Polluted Water
30% of bottled water as well as drinking water from vending machines is contaminated, Thailand's Department of Health revealed.
Contaminants include heavy metals and bacteria, a spokesperson said.
Contaminated water causes various diseases including diarrhoea and typhoid.

False Reports?
According to the Tourist Authority of Thailand (also known as TAT), Thailand as well as Pattaya welcomes more tourists than ever.
TAT said that last year about 80 per cent of hotel rooms in Pattaya were occupied by tourists from Russia and Europe.
But the Thai Hotel Association revealed that room reservations were way down on recent years to a staggeringly low 50% for last Christmas and New Year Festivities.
Last month Pattaya's Mayor had to initiate a campaign to re-energise the local tourism industry.
Somebody seems to play with wrong numbers - but why?

That's Thailand too:
Thailand's Information and Communication Technology Ministry claimed it has obtained new evidence which confirmed its claim of political interference in the contentious third-generation (3G) mobile phone network deal between True Corp and state-owned CAT Telecom.
True Corp. is part of Thailand's CP Group. The Charoen Pokphand Group (CP) is managed by Dhanin Chearavanont, one of Asia's richest men.
He is the most prominet member of Bangkok's controversial Elite, the main supporters of the Yellow Shirt movement which pushed Thailand's last 'Democratic' Government to power.
True Corp signed the contract with CAT Telecom during the reign of 'Democratic' Party's Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva.

Where is the money?
Only 10% of the 120 billion baht earmarked for short-term rehabilitation and flood prevention programmes has been disbursed.
A House subcommittee monitoring the flood-related spending of government agencies, state enterprises and private organisations, said that some officials had pocketed 35% of funding disbursed for flood-related investments.
It's just what your guidebooks call Thais are helping Thais...

SeaMe on Soi 10!
Soi 10 is the street with Pattaya's latest Boutique Hotels. Modern designed hotels without frills, but with funny names: Page 10, The Stay, SeaMe spring and SeaMe spring 2.
Let's hope you will have some fun too!

Pepsi update
In our publication from May 2011 we informed you about the end of Pepsi's 58-year relationship with its Thai Bottler.
PepsiCo Inc. sold its stake in the disloyal Thai Bottler Serm Suk Pcl to Thailand's largest brewer and distiller in a $513 million deal that shaked up the U.S. soft drink maker's Thai operation.
Thai Beverage Pcl, the buyer, is owned by liquor tycoon Charoen Sirivadhanabhakdi and is the producer of Chang Beer - and a long time ago the Thai licensee for Carlsberg.
ThaiBev President and CEO Thapana Sirivadhanabhakdi said Serm Suk would continue to produce and sell soft drink products for PepsiCo in the Thai market unitl November 2012, extended from the original due date of April 1st this year.

Be aware
2012 is the Year of English Speaking, the Thai Ministry of Education announced.
The program will be initiated in schools and will involve plenty of academic activities. It will let teachers and students have opportunities to speak English and build their confidence in using it without excessive concern about grammatical errors.
NightWalker and his Team have the same approach - since many years...

Itthiphol Kunplome's funny Pattaya
During the last 4 years of his reign our Mayor of Pattaya introduced 154 new projects, he informed the press. At least one of his project is aimed to enjoy the world: Pattaya's Pedestrian Lights. On May 11th 2012 on Pattaya's Second Road they displayed the 3 colors simultaneously to irritate all of Pattaya's road users - or make the universe laughing about the Mayor's high-tech installations.

50% Price Hike for Foods at Schools
The food for students was about 20 Baht at many schools in this amazing country.
The new school year started with a big surprise: The food costs now 30 Baht.

Thailand's Government said on May 13th that prices for foods are too high. Rice topped with an omelette should cost 15-20 baht, a plate of khao kaeng should sell at 20-30 baht, a plate of rice with two side dishes should retail at 25-35 baht, a bowl of noodles with pork, chicken or fish balls should cost 25-35 baht, the spokesperson said.
It seems the vendors at many schools choosed to adjust their prices to hurt the pocket of most families...
Latest Scams in Pattaya
Promotion Scam at BigC Extra! Central Pattaya
If you buy products during promotion (eg: Buy 1 - Get 1 free / Buy 2 & get a cheaper price) check your receipt before you put the change back to your pocket.
The display at the casher can show another amount than the cash receipt. The receipt shows the deductibles, the display not. The cashier uses the amount on the display to calculate the change! The difference goes into her pocket or to the people involved in the scam.
The only chance to get your money back: Check the receipt before the change goes back to your pocket!

Scam at BigC North Pattaya
A banner at BigC North Pattaya suggests that from May 16th until May 30th 2012 420 grams of Nestle ice-cream costs only 52 Baht instead of 58 Baht. But the cashier ask the (regular?) price of 58 Baht. If you complain you can get it for 55 Baht, but not for the announced 52 Baht! A real scam!
A case for Thailand's Consumer Protection Police Division, but they prefer to close their eyes...
The same ice-cream costs 58 Baht at Tesco/Lotus, but 65 (!) Baht at BigC Jumbo (South Pattaya)!

Compare Prices!
From May 1st to May 15th BigC promoted Belucky Bacon. 190 grams for 99 Baht (instead of 115 Baht). At S.S. Sausage on Naklua Road you get 400 grams of the very same Belucky Bacon for 151 Baht, at Friendship Supermarket on South Pattaya Road they ask 154 Baht for the 400-gram bag of Belucky Bacon!
Even during the promotion periode BigC sells the bacon at a horrendous price! During promotion 400 grams of the tasty bacon would cost more than 208 Baht, without promotion even 242 Baht!

Promotion at Tesco/Lotus
For promotion Tesco/Lotus (as well as other Supermarkets) sometimes like to manipulate prices:
During the first weeks of April Tesco/Lotus promoted Shogun Ham (made in Thailand) for 89 Baht only (Buy 1 - Get 1 free). After (and before) the promotion the distributor sells the 300-gram bag for 59 Baht! Nevertheless, you always got a discount of a about 25% - but not the advertised 50%.
We don't understand why these shops can't publish honest advertisments.

Shell Gasoline Station South Pattaya Road
Some, if not all, of Shell's stations worker are involved in one of Pattaya's most popular scams.
They don't nullify the petrol gauge before they fill up the tank of your vehicle. You pay not only your gasoline, but also the one from their last customer. The difference goes into the pockets of the crew. Before you open the cap of your tank check carefully if the petrol gauge shows a null or not!
Same Scam as last time!
Pattaya's most Powerful Scammer?
In Nightwalker's News Flash from March 2012 we informed you about a scam from Pattaya's Power Buy shops.
Now the same company does it again: The 7'777 Baht Acer Netbook should be on sale from May 3rd until May 30th at all Power Buy shops in Pattaya. But if you ask the salespeople for the netbook they simply tell you "DON'T HAVE!".
Same scam as last time!
In our eyes:
Pattaya's unrighteous shops!
Where is Thailand's Consumer Protection Police Division in a case like this? It seems they are raiding small shops only...

New Toy for Pattaya's Mayor
Pattaya News Flash discovered an eye-catching new Toy for our beloved Mayor Itthiphol Kunplome:
New Toy for Pattaya's Mayor
New Toy for Pattaya's Mayor
Pattaya Mayor Itthiphol Kunplome likes to have exclusive and expensive toys.
Pattaya News Flash discovered the AmphiBus. It already runs in Rotterdam (Holland) and Budapest (Hungary), apparently without any problems.
The bus can reach up to 100 km/hrs on highways, or on Pattaya's Dolphinarium Road in front of City Hall or on our Mayor's projected Beach Racing Road.
Furthermore the AmphiBus can cruise with up to 15 km/hrs in the sea.
We think it's the perfect vehicle for our Mayor and for Pattaya's flooded streets as well as an eye-catching attraction not only for our Chinese visitors.
Imagining: The AmphiBus can ride Pattaya's Asian tourists from their Hotel or Massage Parlour directly to their prefered swimming Restaurant on the sea or to the next island!
We are sure everybody will book it, therefore we recommend to include the ride into every single Chinese tour package! A great opportunity for City Hall and its Officials to make money - now! - and not in a remote future.

Everybody is impatiently waiting for Pattaya's next flooding on Sukhumvit, Soi Buakhaow, Sai Sarm, Sai Song, Sai Nueng and all the small Sois inbetween to see the busses in action. It's great! We dont't have to redevelop our streets - and all the money goes in our pockets, a competent Nobody at City Hall said.
A Visitor writes
From Pattaya's Beach
Noisy Pattaya Beach!
Been to Beach today, you nearly can buy everything on beach, it's like an open market, surely 100 vendors annoy you in 1 hour. The only thing I not could buy was tranquility and silence, for this you must stay in your room.
The noise is unimaginable, boats trying their motors, children are screaming and shouting, and then when it's a little bit quiet somebody put his portable radio on.
Enjoy Pattaya's noisy tourist beach - but don't try to relax, it's impossible!
The empty Promises from Pattaya City Hall
On March 30th 2012 Deputy Mayor Ronakit Ekasingh told the press a proposal awaiting approval would have Pattaya police, tourist police and municipal enforcement officers jointly ticket and arrest on sight pornographic DVD sellers, sex-show touts, beggars, flower sellers and other street vendors from 7 p.m. to 3 a.m.
As anticipated Pattaya City Hall used a lot of words but did nothing.
The touts are still working in front of the Police
Picture: 3 sex-show touts do their work just in front of Pattaya's ignorant Police!
The pornographic DVD sellers, the sex-show touts, the beggars and the flower sellers are still on Walking Street and start their activities just in front of Pattaya's lazy Police.
The children in front of Walking Street's Holy Tree are still jumping on farangs to sell their luminescent necklaces. The people behind these annoying youngsters must have excellent contacts with Pattaya's various Police Organisations...
A few months ago the very same City Hall promised to reduce the number of the vendors on Pattaya Beach. As the letter published above shows:
Nothing ever happened.
All that promises are simply part of our Mayor's election campaign.
Pattaya's Mayor Itthiphol Kunplome promises that all works can be continued and completed if he is re-elected - including his initiatives to widen Beach Road, build a downtown monorail and expand the city's water processing facilities.
Itthiphol Kunplome wasted the taxpayer's money during his last four years and he will do so if re-elected. He is a chip off the old block.
Same procedure as all his predecessors.

Pattaya City: Definitely More Garbage
Pattaya City: Definitely More
On April 24th 2012 Pattaya Mayor Itthiphol Kunplome announced his Pattaya New Look campaign to promote Pattaya City around the world as a tourist destination and as a city with plenty of investment potential.
Pattaya's Mayor said a major advertising campaign will be started under a Pattaya City Definitely More slogan to re-energise the local tourism industry.
Instead of solving Pattaya's current problems our beloved Mayor prefers to launch new projects almost daily.
Stupidity can't be replaced, but it can be re-elected.
Pattaya City Hall released a survey conducted by the nearby Burapa University to informe the public that 78.12% of Pattaya residents were satisfied with Itthiphol Kunplome's performance.
But the Burapa Univerity itself is involved in a few of the Mayor's projects...
(You already know how it works: You scratch my back and I will scratch yours).

Pattaya Beach Resort?
Don't know how to run a Beach Resort
Pattaya City: No information in Pattaya
Almost every single Beach Resort in Europe, America, Australia and Asia informe its visitors about the quality of the water. The picture here is from Hongkong's Butterfly Beach and was taken during June 2004. Hongkong as well as all the other destinations close their beaches if the water quality isn't satisfying.
Pattaya claims to be a Beach Resort since 1967 but in all that years its officials never learned how to informe its citizens and tourists correctly. Thailand's Pollution Control Department demoted Pattaya 2009 from four stars to three stars because of poor management of tourism and the environment. Pattaya News Flash from May 2008 warned: Don't take a Bath at Pattaya's Beaches!

Google Tablet
Asustek Computer is set to start shipping a tablet the company co-developed with Google.
The 7-inch Google branded tablet PC will be officially released in the market in July with an initial shipments of about 600'000 units.
Google hopes to sell 2-2.5 million units in 2012.

Apples
Apple's new 7-inch iPad Tablet reportedly will be released in August. It's manufactured by Foxconn Electronics in China.
Pegatron Technology will produce a new iPhone for Apple. It will be launched in September.
Pegatron Technology is also manufacturing Apple's new 10-inch iPad to be launched in the fourth quarter.
Pegatron Technology is part of Asustek (known as Asus).

The end of Android?
Due to the weak demand for Android-based tablet PCs, PC brand vendors such as Hewlett-Packard (HP), Acer and Dell have already turned their focuses from Android to Windows 8 for their tablet PC products.
We expect that in the future Android will power low end products and Windows 8 High End as well as overcalculated Intel based Tablets, PCs and Smartphones.
Nevertheless, Android 4.0-based tablet PCs will be the dominant products in the third quarter of 2012 as most brand vendors will not rush to launch Windows 8-based models until the fourth quarter.
In High-Tech Pattaya Android 2.2 tablets still dominate at TukCom.
Android 4.0 tablets are still to expensive here in Thailand. The price for basic 7-inch versions should be around 3'000 Baht (≈ $100).

10.1-Inch Kindle
Rumors say Amazon will launch a 10.1-Inch Kindle Fire in the third quarter of this year. Amazon will suspend the launch of a speculated 8.9-Inch model.
