No Alcohol near Educational Institutions
In our July issue as well as on August 4th we reported about the new 300 meter ban of alcohol introduced by Thailand's Military Junta.
On August 22nd Pattaya Mail tells its readers that Pattaya-area officials agreed to take stern action against entertainment venues violating new dictates from the National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO).
Singha to launch new alcoholic fruit drinks
Singha Corporation announced the launch of a low-alcohol fruit-based cocktail beverage.
Syder Bay will be available in three flavours, Pop (apple juice), Reggae (peach juice), and Jazz (red berry juice), and will come in 275-millilitre glass bottles at 32 Baht/each.
The product will be available from October 16th at convenience stores, supermarkets and traditional-trade outlets.
Singha's new 'fruit juice' will have a 3.5 per cent alcohol content.
Chang replaces all its Beers
Thai Beverage (ThaiBev), the brewer of Chang Beer, announced that it will replace all beers under the Chang, Chang Light, Chang Draught and Chang Export brands by Chang Classic.
Chang Classic will be sold in a newly designed green and handy bottle and will be easy to drink with only a 5.5-degree alcohol level, down from 6 degrees previously, the company claims.
Chang Classic bottles come in two sizes - 320cc and 620cc - at prices of about 34-37 Baht and 53-55 Baht respectively.
No information was given if the new Chang Classic will be a real (100% Malt) beer as Chang Export was - or an alcoholic drink made with the help of rice as the other Chang Beers.
Stupid Investgators?
The investigators in Bangkok's bombing filled the crater at the Shrine within 24 hours to reopen the venue to the public as soon as possible, giving the international Press and Police Organisations the opportunity to question the effectiveness of the probe carried out by Thailand's already controversial and unreliable security forces.
Update (August 21st):
Nothing but theories
In the aftermath of the deadly bombing at Bangkok's Erawan Shrine, at least six theories have emerged.
The Nation collected, analysed and published them.
The report shows that Thailand's 'highly qualified' Security Forces still groping in the dark.
As in other countries too, the large sums invested in National Secret Services is completely wasted money.
Travel advisories
So far twenty-three countries had issued travel advisories.
Austria, Belgium, Denmark, France, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, South Korea, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan and the United States urging their citizens to take extra care during trips to Thailand.
However Australia, Canada, China, Germany, Italy, Ireland, New Zealand, Russia and the United Kingdom are recommending a higher degree of caution. They issued a so called Level 3 warning.
Hong Kong issued a Level 4 warning, advising its citizens to avoid non-essential travel to Thailand.
Second Bomb explodes
Today at about 13:20 a second but smaller bomb exploded at Bangkok's Sathorn pier.
The pipe bomb was thrown from the Taksin road and rail bridge near the waterway and the BTS Saphan Taksin station. It detonated harmlessly in the nearby Sathorn canal. No one was enjured.
Because TNT was found in both bombs our highly qualified Police told the press that the Sathorn as well as the Erawan attacks are the work of the same bombers.
Bangkok:
Bomb kills Tourists
On August 17th at about 19:00 a bomb exploded inside Bangkok's popular Erawan Shrine and killed at least 19 people and injured 123 others.
The victims are mostly foreign tourists.

At midnight our lovely Police still didn't know if the bomb exploded inside or outside the Erawan Shrine. At the moment of writing nobody took responsibility for the explosion, but our highly educated Government already told its people that the attack was launched to destroy Thailand's tourist industry and the countries econimic future...
Short-sighted Junta Leader
Bangkok Post claims that Thailand's Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha has just told his Energy Ministry to do the wrong thing, in the wrong way and at the wrong time.
He wants the ministry to forget about renewable and alternative energy sources, and get on with increasing electricity output by using fossil fuels, Bangkok Post writes.
It is well-known in this country that the Junta Leader's mouth is a lot faster than his brain. He confirms it himself almost daily.
Operators of entertainment venues have to respect new regulations or face a 5 year closure of their bars and clubs.
Pattaya one reports that during a meeting at Pattaya City Hall the Chief of Banglamung District confirmed regulations set out in an order issued by the NCPO (National Council for Peace and Order) on 23rd July 2015.
With the new regulations and the announced 'strict enforcement of the laws' by our famous Police Organisations we will face a lot of funny nights during the next few weeks.
It would be interesting to follow who has the better connection on/or will spend more money to our responsible authorities...
Be warned:
PATTAYA ONE's new Website doesn't work correctly with Google Chrome and/or Firefox on Windows 10 at least!
No Plastic Bags today
On June 15th, 2015, fifteen supermarket chains have agreed to celebrate no plastic bag shopping days on the 15th of each month.
The 15 chains are 7-Eleven, Tesco Lotus, Big C, Foodland, Power Buy, Siam Makro, B2S, Central, Central Food Retail, Central Marketing Group, as well as The Malls Group, Robinson, Rangsit Plaza, CRC Sports and CRC Thai Watsadu.

Jet Ski Saga
Thailand's Ministry of Foreign Affairs ordered Pattaya Officials to enforce the law against Pattaya's notorious Jet Ski operators, the Pattaya Business and Tourism association (PBTA) told the press.
According to the PBTA Pattaya's Officials told the Ministry of Foreign Affairs that they will summon all Jet Ski operators to discuss the problem.
If they can't come to an agreement, Pattaya's Officials will ban the Jet Ski operators from the beach permanently to terminate the problem once and for all, City Hall promises.
As stated on August 8th, it is well known in the City, that some Officials from Pattaya City Hall and the Resort's Police are beneficiary of the lucrative scams.
That's why Pattaya Mayor Itthiphol Khunplome and his City Hall are in talks with the Jet Ski Mafia since many years - without any results but with new and trashy promises after each meeting.
Update (August 14th): Please read Pattaya faces Indian boycott over failure to end jet ski scams published by Pattaya Mail.
Scrounger unmasked
On March 26th, 2015, Pattaya Mayor Itthiphol Khunplome told Bangkok Post in an interview that we believe that the jet ski scam will be solved within the next two months.
On August 8th Pattaya Daily News reports that Indian tourists still get ripped off by Jet Ski operators.
It's just another proof that nobody ever can trust a single word from Pattaya Mayor Itthiphol Khunplome.
It is well known in the City, that some Officials from Pattaya City Hall and the Resort's Police are beneficiary of the lucrative scams.
Corrupt City Hall?
Pattaya City Hall installed Safety Rollers on the Northern part of Pattaya's Beach Road as well as on the City's Big Buddha Hill to protect pedestrians from racing cars and motorcycles.
Pattaya Daily News reports that the Safety Rollers purchased by unnamed Pattaya Officials are not only completely overpaid but almost useless.
Pattaya Mayor Itthiphol Khunplome and his City Hall are wasting the taxpayers money whenever they discover an opportunity.
The next City Hall scam is already in preparation: A lift for handicapped people.
The installation will move wheelchair drivers over Pattaya's congested streets, from one unusable pavement to another unusable one...
Update (August 14th): Please read Councilman alleges irregularities in Pattaya road-safety projects published by Pattaya Mail.
Thailand faces the Reality
The Sandmen from Thailand's Commerce Ministry have finally succumbed to the truth.
The country's export outlook looks bad, very bad:
The Ministry had to correct its export forecast from an estimated 1.2% growth to a 3% contraction.
It's time to say 'Thank You' to Thailand's fast speaking General Prayuth Chan-ocha and his incompetent Military Junta. Please go home!
New Visa Regulation
Pay 5'000 Baht and Thailand grants a 6-month multiple entry visa to tourists from all nations, Military Junta Leader General Prayuth Chan-ocha promises.

Chaotic Military Junta
During July 2015 we reported here and here about the new booze ban introduced by Thailand's Military Junta.
Today Bangkok Post reports that the Alcohol Control Committee on Tuesday dropped a Prime Minister's Office proposal to ban the sales of alcohol within 300 metres of universities and technical colleges to end the confusing overlap with a similar rule recently issued by the National Council for Peace and Order.
On the same day KhaoSod English states that Thailand will go back to the drawing board with its unilateral ban on sales of alcohol near schools, while leaving it on the books as vaguely written for selective enforcement based on the judgment of law enforcement officers.

Rat
The Rats are Back
During a media campaign in January Officials from Pattaya's Public Health and Environment Department announced the eradication of the city's rat population.
Obviously unnoticed by Pattaya's Officials during the last few months, the cute animals returned to our beaches.
It seems that the rats feel very comfortable between Pattaya's ingenious sandbags and propagate and grow constantly.
If Pattaya's Officials fail to eraticate the plague, we recommend that Thailand's Military Junta uses section 44 to ban all kind of rats from Pattaya's World Class Beaches.
35 Baht Security Fee
Airports of Thailand Plc (AoT) announced that starting from December 1st, 2015, all passengers flying into and out of its six international airports have to pay an additional 35 Baht to cover the costs of its advanced passenger background check system.
Airports of Thailand Plc (AoT) was a state enterprise. It became a public company on 30 September 2002 with 70% of the company's stock held by Thailand's Government, e.g. the Military Junta.
Impoverished Thai Farmers
Data published recently by Thailand's Industry Ministry show that 1.64 million farmers in this country are saddled with debts totalling 237.16 billion Baht. That means that each single Thai Farmer face an average debt of 388'000 Baht.
Thailand's Military Junta Leader, General Prayuth Chan-ocha, told all related agencies to coordinate to help them by comprehensively categorising their debt status and evaluating the farmers' needs so effectively measures can be designed.
He also recommended that Thailand's farmers should get some financial management education so the problem can be solved permanently.
Military Junta's Government a complete Failure?
Former Foreign Minister Kasit Piromya suggested that all economic ministers of General Prayuth Chan-ocha's government be removed because of their complete failure to solve the country's economic problems.
They have completely failed to deliver. It's just empty talk and no concrete achievements, he claims.
Fact is that Thailand's Central Bank has again cut the country's economic growth and export projections to slightly lower than 3%.
In June Thailand's Central Bank already trimmed its GDP forecast to 3% from 3.8%.
Police News
Greedy Police
Pattaya Daily News reports that over 30 business operators who rent out motorbikes complained at Pattaya City Hall.
The group claims that our lovely Police stop tourists at Police Checkpoints on their rented bikes and charge them very high fines. Police fine drivers even if they are carrying the correct documents and licenses.
The City's Tourists are often regarded as fair game - especially by our lazy but greedy Police Organisation.
TiP (This is Pattaya).
Police as well as Teachers are ignoring Thailand's Laws
Thailand's law requires that all people travelling on motorcycles have to wear a safety helmet.
According to statistics only 7 per cent of children do wear a helmet and an average of more than seven children are killed on Thailand's roads every single day.
Thailand's teachers are to lazy to stop children driving a motorcycle without helmet.
During the times school open or close Thailand's police sit in their barracks.
Moreover, the legal age for riding a motorcycle up to 110cc is 15; 18 is the legal age for riding a motorcycle over 110cc.
Neither teachers nor police are checking the age of a motorcycle driver or the type of bike Thailand's children are driving to school and back home.
In my area many underaged children are driving a Honda MSX, a 125cc bike. Of course, without wearing a helmet.
TiT (This is Thailand).
Thailand's Police Officials in deep debts
Bangkok Post reports that about 2'500 Police Officers in Thailand's upper Northeast are defaulting on debts and about 600 are facing bankruptcy lawsuits.

Thailand's Council of State ruled that it is illegal for a driver of a vehicle to talk on a mobile phone while stopping at a red light, except if he/she/it is using a hands-free set.

On August 6th Pattaya One reports that a Large and Dangerous Hole appeared on Pattaya Beach Promenade and concludes that the entire promenade appears to have been poorly constructed.

Never invest in an unfinished Property
Never invest in an unfinished Property
We are warning our readers since many years not to invest in planned or unfinished property. You can lose a lot of money doing so.
We repeat this warning because Thailand is in the middle of a economic downturn. Many projects are cancelled, face a slowdown or are halted by court orders.
As an example:
Pattaya's Property Trader published a report in its July 2015 publication praising the highly disputed Waterfront as an iconic building in Thailand. The Waterfront Suites and Recidences by Tulip Group is set to become one of the most recongnized buildings in Thailand, the magazine is writing.
While it is no secret that the Tulip Group has recently faced certain issues with some local groups regarding how the Waterfront's soaring heights will impact Pattaya's skyline.
The developer claims that the project will still be completed, as per original schedule. The company, controlled by investors from Israel (known as Bali Hai Co. Ltd.) says existing investors must now only wait another six to eight months before they will receive the keys...
Fact is that the case has to be judged by a court - and as we learned from similar cases in Jomtien, Thailand's courts are working slowly.
Furthermore, Thailand's Interior Ministry ordered on July 11th, 2015, that the issue of the issuance of the EIA (Environmental Impact Assessment) process for the Waterfront Residence at the Bali Hai Port is set to be investigated. The focus of attention by Major General Nattapit, Assistant to the Minister of the Interior and Chairman of the Committee formed to oversee an investigation into Pattaya City and it's Mayor Itthiphol Khunplome, is the Waterfront Residence, Thailand's Newspapers claim.
It is known that Pattaya City Hall was expanding the beach front with landfill as it was constructing a port project. This beachfront expansion has thus enabled the luxury condo project site to distant itself more than 100 metres from the mean sea level, making it to meet requirement of the environment protection laws.
The port still is not in use...
Please read too:
Thailand's condominium market is quiet due to a lack of purchasing power. It is caused by Thailand's economic sluggishness. Furthermore, Thailand's banks are now more stringent about the provision of housing loans because of the high overall household debt at more than 80 per cent relative to the country's gross domestic product. The Russians do not buy anymore, many of them try to get rid of their Condo(s). Don't believe the stories about the chinese spending spree...

Bravo: Jomtien's deadly Intersection made safer
Since the opening of Jomtien's Second Road its intersection with the Bun Kanchana Alley was the source of a lot of accidents.
First Pattaya's officials installed traffic lights, but Thailand's highly educated drivers simply ignored them, then the Authorities closed the intersection. But now they installed the only possible solution to the problem: A Roundabout.
Nevertheless, the Roundabout still needs some adjustments: For most of these stinky Chinese Tourist Busses the radius is too small. In the current design these vehicles need both tracks and push ordinary cars out of the lanes.
Update (August 21st): Pattaya Mail reports that the new Roundabout to be Pattaya's latest attempt to fix Jomtien's dangerous intersection.

The End of a Dream?
The former Pattaya Bazaar, a few month ago newly announced as Terminal One, seems to remain a dream.
Since a few days, the demolition work is in full swing.
A few years ago the building was announced as an extension of Pattaya Bazaar, a shopping area located on the City's Second Road. Later it housed the also failed J.J Market. The market had a soft opening on April 8th, 2013, and closed down slowly during March 2014. During September 2014 the management announced that a Terminal One will coming soon...

If a division has more than 10 cables, they must bundle the cables together into one big cable for reason of safety of the people and the traffic, the new regulation said.

Thailand's Military Junta has authorised internet providers in Thailand to shut down any websites with content that threatens the national security or violates Section 112 (also known as lese majeste) "in 30 seconds" without seeking approval from any authority.
The move is seen in response to a lack of cooperation by foreign media companies in removing content the Thai government finds offensive. For example, 2014 Google did not remove any content requested by Thailand's Military Junta.

Selling assets to a foreign company is a legal way for Thai citizens to avoid paying taxes, but it seems it is a big difference if a member of Bangkok's Elite does the deal or a newcomer from Chiang Mai.
The Junta Leader ordered the media not publishing news about Thailand's former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra. Dictator Prayuth Chan-ocha claims that Thaksin Shinawatra violated Thailand's law.

The End of Free WiFi
The coming new wireless communications standard is called 5G. It will be the successor of the currently available 2G, 3G and 4G technology.
According to Aicha Evans, a vice president of platform engineering group and general manager of the communications and devices group at Intel, 5G will incorporates distributed intelligence at all levels - from the smartphone to the router to the basestation aggregator to cloudlets, clouds and the fastest supercomputers, even cellular, WiFi, centimeter- and millimeter wavelength bands must be seamlessly integrated.
To the carriers this integration will come at a price, since 5G-for-all presents the opportunity to kill free WiFi and instead charge users for every data packet they send or receive, no matter which of the integrated communications technologies is used...
