Red Bull Heir playing cat and mouse with Thailand's so called justice
Thailand a Casino of Injustice?
Vorayuth "Boss" Yoovidhya, the heir of Red Bull, has a laugh again: Thailand's Public Prosecutors are unable to request the extradition of the Red Bull heir because our lovely Police have failed to identify his current address, Bangkok Post as well as The Nation report.
A few days ago Bangkok Post published an interesting report about the casino of (in)justice.

We talk and talk and do nothing
Pattaya Mail reports that Koh Larn's garbage problem is still not solved.
Former Chonburi Gov. Pracha Taerat, an official with the Interior Ministry who acts as an advisor to Pattaya's mayor is still talking with a delegation from City Hall to takle the problem.
In the meantime the rubbish grows and grows on the 10 rai large waste disposal site and stinks up to the sky.
Nevertheless, the highly educated (and paid) Officials promise only to bring up the subject at a future city council meeting.
Since July 2015 local people are hoping that the Pattaya City Administration is solving the garbage problem before it gets out of control.
We keep you posted.

Ludicrous
Thailand's Military Junda orders that until the end of this month all Bars and Clubs on Pattaya Walking Street have to rip down their signs.
And what Pattaya Deputy Mayor Apichart Weerapan plans to do with the special Sex Show Palasts for Chinese Tourists? Rip them down completely or orders to erect new ones? They are owned by very influential people.
Update (August 4th): For additional and different sounding information please read a report published by Pattaya Mail.
In the article the current Government also renews the claim to begin reinstalling all the main power cables underground - by the end of the year (read in the middle of high season). We already reported of such a stupid 'plan' in our December 2008 (!) edition...
Update (August 11th): Pattaya Mail writes that City Hall is scrambling to contain the fallout over its widely criticized proposal to remove all of Walking Street's signature neon signs, a move suggested for safety reasons.
A security expert told us in an e-mail that the most dangerous obstacles on Walking Street are not the neon signs, but City Hall's very own Power Cables.
Remove them and the resort is a lot less dangerous, he writes.

Acquitted because of insufficient evidence
Bangkok Post reports that the orgaizers of the so-called 'Zero Dollar Tours' got acquitted by Thailand's Criminal Court because of insufficient evidence.
Thailand's Government Leader ordered the arrest because these tours damage Thailand's tourism industry. And the country's Police did the work as they do it almost always if some influent people are involved: Incomplet and with closed eyes on important evidences.
In this particular case Police Investigators never checked the shops and businesses of the defendants but Thailand's Anti-Money Laundering Office (AMLO) seized their assets worth more than 10 billion Baht...
Short-tempered Pattaya Police
Bangkok Post reports that Pattaya Police Officers pulled an innocent Ladyboy off her motorcycle, punched her in the face and slapped her on her right ear.
It's not a one-time incident as the report shows. Many Officials from Soi 9 are not only ignoring Thailand's law that says that everybody is innocent until proven guilty by a court, with their behavior Pattaya Police are also ignoring all human rights.
Some of these 'law enforcers' have a behavior that mocks every description.
Answering another case of brutal force against an alleged drug suspect, documented on a viral video, Pattaya's Police Chief Pol. Col. Apichai Kroppech downplayed the beating but said that no police or military personnel is authorized to use brute force unless threatened.
Immigration News
Important Notice
Since General Prayuth Chan-ocha and his Military Junta launched their Coup d'état on May 22nd, 2014, Thailand's Visa ground rules are constantly changing. More over, not every consulate can issue all the different Visas. Some smaller consulates even display notices to the effect that non-immigrant visas are unavailable.
Our advice: Before booking your holidays please contact the Embassy in your country to obtain information about Thailand's latest regulation(s) and check the Chonburi Immigration Website or the website of Thailand's Immigration Police.
Update (March 2016):
New Overstay Regulations
Thailand's new immigration policy will take effect on March 20th of this year.
Please click for details!
Busy Immigration
Pol Lt Gen Nathathorn Prousoontorn, chief of the Immigration Bureau, informed the media that between October 2015 and March 2016 Thailand's Immigration deported a total of 486'947 foreigners who overstayed their visas. Another 323'575 foreigners overstaying their visas still remain at large.
If the numbers mentioned above are correct, the Immigration Bureau deported about 2'700 people a day...
Congratulation!
Never trust a statistic that you have not manipulated yourself!
New 10-year Visa
Thailand's interim Government announced on November 22nd, 2016, that foreign residents over 50 will be able to apply for 10-year visas.
The new Visa would replace one-year renewable visas and come in two installments of five years each.
Applicants must either earn a monthly salary of at least 100'000 Baht or have more than 3 million Baht in their bank account, which cannot be withdrawn within the first year after receiving the visa.
Applicants also must also have a health insurance that covers hospital stays and provides at least US$10'000 in annual coverage.
Visa holders will still have to check in every 90 days with the Bureau of Immigration.
Up & Down
Thailand's Military Junta cuts the visa-on-arrival fee for tourists from Andorra, Bulgaria, Bhutan, China, Cyprus, Ethiopia, India, Kazakhstan, Latvia, Lithuania, the Maldives, Malta, Mauritius, Romania, San Marino, Saudi Arabia, Taiwan, Ukraine and Uzbekistan from today 2'000 Baht to 1'000 Baht.
The 1'000-Baht fee for visas sought at Thai embassies and consulates would be lifted.
The reduction is applicable from December 1st, 2016, to February 28th, 2017, only.
The change was announced less than two months after the visa fee was increased to 2'000 Baht on September 27th, 2016...
New Rules
Foreigners who enter Thailand without a visa via a land border crossing can now do so only twice per calendar year.
Those who seek to enter Thailand without a visa via a land border checkpoint for a third time in a calendar year may be denied entry and asked to apply for a regular visa first.
Entries through international airports are not affected by this new regulation.
While eligible foreigners who enter Thailand under the “visa exemption” scheme would previously get 30 days exclusively at international airports but only 15 days at border crossings, this rule has now been relaxed and all foreigners will receive 30-day entry stamps also at land border checkpoints.
The new rules went into effect on December 31st, 2016.
Free visas extended
Bangkok Post reports that Thailand's Government extended by six months to August free visas at Thai consulates and embassies and discounts on visas on arrival for visitors from 21 countries.

Pattaya Tunnel opened
On Friday, August 25th, our Authorities opened the long delayed Pattaya Tunnel to the public with a grand opening ceremony.
The four-lane tunnel runs for 420 metres beneath the Pattaya Klang intersection. It has an overall length of 1.9 kilometres, took three years to build and costs 840 million Baht.
For security and safety of the drivers using Pattaya underpass, the tunnel is packed with the latest electronics, including air vents and cameras, officials claim.
The opening had been delayed for a few months because of the 'usual' red tape that tied up the transfer of the project from the Department of Rural Roads, which paid for the work, to the Pattaya City Administration.
At the time of writing it is not clear if motorcycles are allowed to use the tunnel. An LED board in front of the signpost tells 'no motorcycles allowed', but on Friday and on Saturday we counted hundreds of drivers heading their bikes into the underpass...
Pattaya Tunnel opened
This message was displayed during 24 hours on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
Nevertheless, cars as well as motorcycles entered the tunnel.
The entry to Pattaya Klang, crossing Sukhumvit Road is controlled by traffic lights - but the lights weren't working...
The extractor fans inside the tunnel are not woking. Gas levels in the tunnel were therefore well above safty levels.
Motorbikes, tuk tuks, bicycles, and vehicles carrying dangerous goods are banned from using the tunnel, Pattaya Police says.

Pattaya, the World's Center of Sunburn?
Risk of Sunburn at Pattaya Beach
Last month our highly educated Pattaya City Council introduced just another day without sun shades and deckchairs, not considering that sunburn is a clear sign that the DNA in your skin cells has been damaged by too much UV radiation.
Getting sunburn, just once every 2 years, can triple your risk of melanoma skin cancer.
Pattaya City Council simply bans sun shades but does not take responsibility for its stupid order.
Pattaya City Council does not pay your medical bills resulting from skin cancer. It's 'up to you'.
Update:
On August 1st City Hall reduced the ban of using sun shades and deckchairs to one day only. Wednesday is now the 'off duty day' for beach vendors.

Stupid City Hall replaces Dolpin Roundabout
Dispite protests from all sides, our highly educated Officials from Pattaya City Hall decided on August 9th, 2017, to replace Pattaya's Dolphin Roundabout with a four-way intersection controlled by traffic lights.
The decision is in full contrast to worldwide replacements of light signals by roundabouts.
It is scientifically proven that Roundabouts are a lot more efficient and safer than convention intersections. They allow more cars to pass through at a given time. Furthermore, studies have shown that they reduce injury accidents by about 75 percent.
Traffic experts all over the world are only shaking their heads about the irrational decision of Pattaya's Officials - and the rest of the world is roaring of laughter.
As pointed somewhere on this page, Pattaya doesn't have the money to maintain and repair the city's existing infrastructure, but the Officials always find some money to launch completely unnecessarily and stupid projects, like the Bali Hai Parkhouse, the Bali Hai Marina Port, the Pattaya Tram, the Sukhumvit Tunnel, the Baht Bus Stops, the Baht Bus Shelters, the recently installed Street Signs on Intersections and the completely failed Beach Promenades in Pattaya and Jomtien, to name a few only of City Hall's recent waste of money projects.
The launch of this project shows once again the incompetence and stupidity of the Officials running Pattaya

After the failed Skytrain project, Pattaya City Hall promotes another stupid Idea to waste Taxpayers' money
Pattaya Tram
Stupid Idea: Tram in Pattaya
Skytrain in Pattaya
Canceled Stupidity: Skytrain in Pattaya
With the replacement of former Pattaya Mayor Itthiphol Kunplome, the main 'brain' behind the City's Skytrain project, in June 16th, 2016, by men from Thailand's Military Junta, many people hoped for a better use of Pattaya's financial resources.
They were disappointed.
On September 16th Pattaya City Hall proposed an eight-kilometer-long downtown tram system and on June 10th, 2017 a watchdog group claimed on Facebook that two tram lines are coming for sure and are set to transform Pattaya into a real World Class Resort.
Pattaya's current Mayor even said that a tram system would be the answer to the resort's transport and traffic crisis.
Projected Tram lines
Projected Tram lines
Open your eyes and switch on your brain and you will see:
A tram removes not a single one of the stinky Chinese Tourist Busses from our streets. Tourists from Big China travel in a 'closed circuit' from destination A to destination B, controlled by a overwhelming group of Thai and Chinese Mafia organisations.
Thai citizens are used to travel from door to door. They don't want to walk 100 or even 500 meters to the next tram stop.
Door to door riding is also the reason why all the money for Bus Stop markings, including the newly announced 1.4-million-Baht expensive construction of 30 passenger shelters across Pattaya, is completely wasted.
Military heads think they can simply order a new awareness. It doesn't work.

Jomtien Beach faces same Problem as Pattaya Beach

Jomtien Beach after a rainy day (pictured July 21st, 2017)
During 2013 the highly educated people from Nong Nooch Tropical Botanical Garden, obviously good friends of then Pattaya Mayor Itthiphol Kunplome, started to built up an all new Beach Promenade in Pattaya.
It should become a real disaster.
This did not prevent our lovely authorities from awarding the contract for the renewal of Jomtien Beach to the very same company.
The result is documented on the above picture.

Absolutely no Environmental Awareness
Dispose your waste wherever you can
Waste disposal on Soi Arunotai
It's a pity, Thailand could be such a beautiful country, but its citizens dispose their waste wherever they can.
It's a clear sign of missing environmental awareness, caused by an insufficient and inefficient education system.
But it's also a testament to the inability of Thailand's authorities to provide efficient waste disposal facilities.
The country operates almost no environmentally friendly waste incineration plants. Daily waste is usually handled by 'good friends' of actual politicians, using their very own landfill sites with absolutely no understanding of what they really do.
Thailand has virtually no collection points for bulky waste, therefore people has to create their very own landfill sites wherever they spot an unused part of ground. The result can be seen in the picture above - and all over the country...
Nevertheless, the country is promoting itself as the new hub for environmentally friendly cars, read battery operated vehicles. The authorities completely ignore that electric vehicles are anything else then environment friendly. Alone the production and the missing professional recycling of obsolete batteries will be disasterous for our environment in most countries of this the world.
Do you need a proof?
Try to properly dispose the obsolete battery of your motorcycle here in Pattaya - or somewhere else in the Isan...
Thailand stifles in the dirt and our authorities are watching and smiling - and making cash with their friends.

Thailand's Tsunami Warning System out of order
Thailand's Tsunami Warning System out of order
On July 31st REUTERS reported that up to 80 percent of Thailand's Tsunami warning system is out of order. The country's warning system was set up during 2006 and includes warning towers, a network of detection buoys in the sea and public announcement systems.
Whole the system needs maintrnance, at least batteries have to be changed, solar panels have to be cleaned or replaced and in some places even equipement is damaged, but in all that years obviously nobody took care of the system.

Many of the Army's flat-bottomed boats are in deplorable conditions
The deployment of the Royal Thai Army (RTA) to help victims in Thailand's most flood affected areas in Sakon Nakhon was appreciated but also revealed that many - if not most - of the Army's flat-bottomed boats as well as some other relief vehicles are in deplorable conditions.
Perhaps Thailand's Dictator can explain why he belief that the Army can maintain the recently ordered submarine if the Army is not even capable to give the needed maintenance to a simple rescue boat.
We fear that the submarine will experience the same fate as the Royal Navy's aircraft carrier. Within a few years only it was a rusty wreck.
The very same happened to the Army's helicopters: In 2011 then Army Chief General Prayuth Chan-ocha had to admit that not even half of his helicopter fleet is ready to flight. They are mainly carcasses. In 2011 he even lost three helicopters and 17 people in crashes based on poor maintenance...
Pattaya City Hall runs about 2'000 CCTV
Pattaya City Hall runs about 2'000 CCTV - many of them are out of order
Whenever Police asks to to see some camera footage of a crime, the administrator of the city's multimillion-baht CCTV system has to admid that the cameras just in that part of the city didn't work.
Last year, Pattaya City Council members admitted that as many as 90 percent of the devices were broken.
Sometimes Pattaya's officials blame a broken camera, an interrupted network, a power failures, flooding, a transformer explosion or even a virus attack for their failure to present some footage of a crime...
Update (August 16th):
Pattaya One reports that actually over half of all CCTV cameras installed by Pattaya City Hall don't work..

Pattaya's stinky Pump Station
Since many years tourists and locals complain about Pattaya's stinky pump station at the entrance to our world famous Walking Street.

Dirty and/or stinky tap water in Pattaya - nobody cares...
Since many years we warn our visitors about the bad quality of Pattaya's tap water.
At the moment the water seems to be clear, but in some areas is smells from chemocals or even from faeces.
But look at the pictures below what Pattaya's tap water can do too:
Pattaya's stinky pump station

The same happens to the water taps: No matter if you buy cheap or expensive taps, in some parts of Pattaya the water destroys the water tap from within and dyes it brown or black on the outside. Nobody cares...

romantic_garden
The no-name venue we presented last month as Pattaya's most beautiful karaoke bar is now announced as Romantic Garden providing drinks, food and - yes you are reading correctly - shisha. Obviously Thailand's Laws do not have the same meaning for everybody:
On October 14th, 2014, Thailand's Cabinet approved a ban on the import of electronic cigarettes and hookah style water pipes. The ban also applies to any substances that could be used to flavor the water used in water pipes.
Just a few days ago, on July 22nd, 2017, Pattaya Police arrested a 'surprised' vendor of e-cigarettes, shiaha pipes and bottles of vaping fluid.
On July 26th, 2017, a Swiss man was arrested for vaping an e-cigarette in public. He was arrested, led away, and sat six days in jail – completely cut off from the environment, without real contact and under degrading and humiliating conditions, some of his friends report.

Pattaya claims to be a world-class beach resort. It's a lie! The city is not even capable to present an event calendar.
Most events are announced only a few days before they happen.
Other cities or even whole regions publish event calendars or event books covering all events of a year.
Pattaya suffers from megalomania.

No Alcohol Days
Thailand's National No Alcohol Days include Buddhist holidays and election days.
On all oher days alcohol can only be sold between 11:00-14:00 and 17:00-24:00.
Vendors caught breaking the ban are liable to a prison sentence of up to six months, a 10'000 Baht fine or both - but local Police use their own discretion to decide which venues need to be visited and fined...
Don't start laughing:
Do not try to buy non alcoholic beers (available from Clausthaler and Oettinger in this country).
The shops won't sell them during dry days.
Some not even sell Soda Water, because Thais and their Police associate it with (Thai) Whisky...

Electric Vehicles use batteries and batteries are not only a threat to our planet during manufacturing, the 'Recycling' of batteries is still an unsolved problem in most countries.
If the power for charging the batteries is generated by fossil or nuclear power plants then the LCA (life cycle assessment) turns completely to the worse.

Solar Cells are a threat to our planet:
The higher the efficiency of a Solar Cell the more Cadmium it contains.
Cadmium is banned from most products in almost all countries, but it can be used without restrictions in Solar Cells. Who controls the 'Recycling' of Solar Cells?

Cars made from Wood
Researchers at Kyoto University and Japan's major parts suppliers such as Denso and DaikyoNishikawa are working together to create a compound made from plastics and cellulose nanofibres*.
The new material made from wood pulp weighs just one fifth of steel and can be five times stronger, the researchers claim.
Cellulose nanofibres have been used in a variety of products ranging from ink to transparent displays, but their potential use in cars has been enabled by the "Kyoto Process", under which chemically treated wood fibres are kneaded into plastics while simultaneously being broken down into nanofibres, slashing the cost of production to roughly one-fifth that of other processes.
The new material, a perfect replacement for steel, is suited to be used in production of cars and aircrafts.
* Cellulose nanofibres are made by breaking down wood pulp fibres into several hundredths of a micron (one thousandth of a millimetre).

Serious Environmental Problems from Solar Cells
According to the China Renewable Energy Society (CRES), China, as well as other countries that witnessed large-scale rollouts of PV power-generating stations and distributed PV systems, will face serious problems with environmental protection arising from decommissioning PV modules within the next 20 years.
Retired and scraped PV modules are hard to recycle because they contain lead, copper and aluminum frames, while the solar cells are crystalline silicon coated with plastic film and do not enjoy an infinite life cycle.
We are warning our readers since many years: Don't use Solar Cells!
