Infamous Tiger Temple reopens as Tiger Zoo
The so-called Tiger Temple will reopen legally as Tiger Zoo later this month with about 24 new tigers.
Although Thailand is a signatory of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora, or CITES, and the government had vowed to end commercial breeding, business is booming at the tiger farms, Khaosod English writes.
Obviously Thailand's Government is thinking that the agreement is just a piece of paper, who cares?
Military Junta manipulates Poll
Thailand's Military has been thoroughly embarrassed in its attempt to distort a poll held by the whistleblower Facebook page CSI LA, which played a major role in exposing Deputy Prime Minister General Prawit Wongsuwan's possession of luxury watches.
During the first days after the poll was posted, the result was clear as tens of thousands of online voters said they wanted Prawit to leave. Then over the weekend, the numbers changed dramatically, showing more people wanting him to stay.
As it turned out, the majority of the 16'000 names on the petition as of yesterday were bogus. On Monday morning, after a review, the number of actual signatures fell to about 300.
For additional information please read the reports published by The Nation and Khaosod English
Dispite Gen Prawit had said he would resign if people did not want him to remain in office, a spokesman says that Deputy PM Prawit has no intention to resign because it's in the best interests of national security and public safety...
Update (February 6th):
The Nation: Most Prawit supporters identified as bogus...
Since many years we doubt the numbers of tourists visiting this country as well as the amount of money they are spending during their holidays.
To see the discrepancy yourself, you only have to stroll through Pattaya's Shopping Centers and Main Streets, count the empty shops and ask the businesses about their turnover.
Most of them will tell you that 2017 was the worst year Pattaya ever experienced.
The numbers Thailand's Military Junta and TAT (Tourist Authority of Thailand) publish tell you the contrary.

Thailand's Dictator Prayuth Chan-ocha
Thailand remains under Dictatorship
On January 30th Thailand's Dictator General Prayuth Chan-ocha has appealed to the public to let him stay for an indefinite time in power to continue laying the foundations for the country.
The self-appointed Prime Minister and leader of his handpicked National Legislative Assembly (NLA) already broke a few times his promise to hold election.
The international community has now sincere doubts to trust the General's words.

Pattaya Police ask for a Licence that doesn't exist!
According to a report published by Dailymail and ThaiVisa a bunch of Pattaya Policemen raided Bars on Soi 6 and asked to see the bar's Dartboard Licence.
When the staff were unable to produce the documentation required, police confiscated their dartboards.
Non of the visited Bars could show the requested documents, simply because no Dartboard Licence exist in this always Amazing country.
According to our lovely Police, the existing entertainment license required by bars doesn't cover playing darts. Until such a Licence exists, Bars are not allowed to let patrons playing the game. Therefore even Pattaya's popular darts league had to be suspended.
Its not the first time Pattaya Police launched a ridicule crackdown on Farangs: In 2016 Police raided the Jomtien and Pattaya Bridge Club and arrested 32 elderly foreigners because the bridge club broke the law by possessing more than 120 playing cards at one time.

Free WiFi along Pattaya Beach
Free WiFi on Pattaya Beach
Pol Maj Gen Pinit Maneerat, the Military Junta's spokesman for Pattaya, announced that the city has invested 24 million Baht* to install a free WiFi system along Pattaya Beach for the general public and tourists.
It's the third time City Hall announces a Free WiFi service during the last 10 years or so.
The last two times TOT Public Company Limited, a Thai state-owned telecommunications company, was responsible for the (failed) service.
This time City Hall claims that they made a 1-year contract with state enterprise CAT Telecom Plc.
According to Pol Maj Gen Pinit Maneerat CAT installed 24 hotspots along Pattaya Beach, from Dusit Thani to the Bali Hai pier area.
To use the Free WiFi users have to register with their personal details. In return they will get two hours of free access per day.
For its Thai citizens Pattaya City Hall published an instruction to register (automatically?) - but not for the City's real breadwinner - the tourists.
*On November 26th, a spokesman from City Hall corrected the press release and said that the City has to pay 14 million Baht/year for the 24 hotspots.
Unusable!
Our Testrun on November 25th shows that - at least for tourists - the announced service is not usable.
Using a smartphone communicating in another language as Thai it is impossible to do the required registration.
When connecting to @Pattaya City Free WiFi the display immediately asks for the passwort.
Moreover, the signal strength is satisfying only in front of a hotspot, in between it's mediocre and the signal is characterised by strong fluctuations with a maximum throughput of 1 Mbps.
The whole announcement of @Pattaya Free Wifi doesn't make sense.
It's nothing else than a bad joke!
Obviously the Government tries everything that Thailand remains a laughing stock
Update (December 1st):
Pattaya Mail writes that Surfing has taken on a whole new meaning on Pattaya Beach after the city launched free wireless internet access.
But they didn't check if the service is reliable - or not...
Immigration News
Important Notice
Since General Prayuth Chan-ocha and his Military Junta launched their Coup d'état on May 22nd, 2014, Thailand's Visa ground rules are constantly changing. More over, not every consulate can issue all the different Visas. Some smaller consulates even display notices to the effect that non-immigrant visas are unavailable.
Our advice: Before booking your holidays please contact the Embassy in your country to obtain information about Thailand's latest regulation(s) and check the Chonburi Immigration Website or the website of Thailand's Immigration Police.

Trust Actions, not Words
During August 2017 Pattaya City Officials claimed during a meeting that 99% of the signs inspected on Walking Street do not meet the required safety standards and exceed size limits. They pose a threat to pedestrians in high winds and block passageways when fire trucks are needed in emergency situations, they said.
The Military dominated City Hall ordered the remove of the objected signs and presented a year-end plan to begin reinstalling all the main power cables underground.
What happened?
The privat sector removed or replaced the objected neon signs, but City Hall simply bundled up the cables along Walking Street, completely ignoring the fact, that the most dangerous obstacles on Walking Street are not the neon signs, but City Hall's very own Power Cables.
We already reported of an announced 'plan' to replace the cables in our December 2008 (!) edition.
As you can see with your own eyes: Nothing happened during the last ten years.

Sparkling Water makes you Hungry and Fat
Sparkling Water makes you Hungry and Fat
According to a recent study done last year at Birzeit University in the Palestinian territories, male rats consuming fizzy drinks regulary put on more weight at a much faster rate than rats given either flat sugary liquids or tap water.
The story was of such a high interest that BBC's Trust Me I'm a Doctor team thought it should do a similar experiment, but with a mix of human volunteers.
The result?
Fizzy sugary drink makes you a lot hungrier an hour later than drinking the same drink, but flat.

No space for a buggy or a wheelchair
Pattaya City Hall, backed by soldiers, aggressively rousted street vendors from Pattaya Beach, Walking Street and other public areas because their semi-stationary carts block traffic and pedestrians, the lovely officials claim.

Emergency Room
Midnight Pattaya
During August 2016 an Egicogroup announced a prestigious project on our old fashioned Walking Street.
To the left and to the right of the entrance to Soi BJ the company claimed it will built two modern glass palaces with Coyote Clubs, Bars, Night Clubs and a Hotel with a large parking space.
Midnight Pattaya also claimed that the first venues will open during 2016 and 2017.
With the exeption of a Liquor outlet on Marine Plaza nothing ever happened. The whole area is still a (quiet) working place.

Midnight Pattaya
In recent weeks, a few activities have been spottet in an open area behind the Liquor shop, where the Midnight Pattaya website announces a beer garden. Nevertheless, the whole place is surrounded by walls. It looks like a ghetto and does not seem like a very welcoming place.
The whole project looks like a reprise of the Soho Square disaster.
Midnight Pattaya: The Terrace
The area behind the Liquor shop is announced to open as
The Terrace, Open Air Club and Restaurant
We keep you posted

On Soi 29/1, Naklua's (in)famous sexshow street, the Penomena Showcase is ready to open.

White Bar
In the rooms of a former tailor shop, a White Bar will open in a black environment.
It is on the right side of Tony's Entertainment Complex. The venue was empty since February 2017 but its front was usually occupied by a bunch of Walking Street's infamous Ladyboys.
Good Bye Marilyn
Marilyn Monroe A Go-Go closed down.
The bar opened on November 16th, 2017, in the rooms of the former L'Italiano Restaurant.
As Bad Girls A Go-Go and Top One A Go-Go, both located on Walking Street, Marilyn Monroe A Go-Go seems to be a victim of City Hall's restrictive licensing.
We all remember December 20th, 2017, when Pattaya Police raided the newly opened bar and claimed that it opened without having the required licence(s).
Although Thailand's Rich and Famous obviously can violate all laws in this country with impunity, it is not opportune for ordinary people to do the same...
The Terrace opened
The Terrace, an all new open air club and restaurant located behind the Liquor Shop on Marine Plaza, opened on February 7th, 2018.
The restaurant is part of Midnight Pattaya and was announced first as a Beer Garden.

It finally happened
After an officially prevented opening on December 30th and on December 31st, 2017, Walking Street's latest Indian Night Club was able to legally open its doors on February 2nd, 2018.
It's a typical Indian dancing with an integrated (and expensive) restaurant, a concept that doesn't work with Westerners, at least not here in Pattaya.
Top Flop
Top One A Go-Go had its last day on January 31st. A day later, on February 1st, the venue located on the still ailing Soho Square, remained in the dark...
Update (February 3rd):
Top One open - or not?
On February 2nd at about 09:30 Top One A Go-Go was closed and in the dark, but at about 00:35 the door to the club was open and the lights were on. Nevertheless, we couldn't spot the expected beauties...
On February 7th, the lights were down again. On February 8th at least some lights were on, but not the A Go-Go signs. I was told that the venue is now a Tomboy Bar.
New Kebab outlet
Sahara Kebab opened between Sandy's fashion shop and Insomnia's iSalon.
New Hip Hop and R&B Club
On Soho Square in the rooms of a failed A Go-Go Club, once known as The Champion, a Hip Hop and R&B dancing called Club 713 opened during last month.
Update (February 20th): The club already closed down for 'renovation'.
