Sex Work in Thailand
Confusion
Khaosod English writes about reality and the denial of sex work in Thailand.
As in other parts of the world, many Thais simply will not tolerate sex work as legal and are ignoring the fact that Sex Workers become more prone to extortion, exploitation and abuse.
Ms. Salinee Chumsuwan, the director of the Office of Culture Monitoring at Thailand's Culture Ministry, even opposes adult toys that looks like phalluses but forget that Thai culture worships amulets that look like the male sexual organ...
As always:
Confusion
With new announcements for the country's upcoming EEC development projects and its high-speed railway, the future of U-Tapao airport is unclear, Bangkok Post reports.
There is no way of telling for sure even if the airport will still be called U-Tapao Airport, a spokeman from Thai Navy told the press.
The already planned third terminal and second runway have to be relocated to another part of the compound, Rear Admiral Luechai said.
U-Tapao Airport just has opened 75% of its newly built second passenger terminal, originally scheduled to fully open last August.
Qatar Airways is using the unfinished terminal for its Doha-U-Tapao flights launched in January 2018.
According to the latest information, the airport is jointly overseen by the Department of Airports and the Royal Thai Navy.

Free WiFi along Pattaya Beach
Free WiFi on Pattaya Beach
Pol Maj Gen Pinit Maneerat, the Military Junta's spokesman for Pattaya, announced that the city has invested 24 million Baht* to install a free WiFi system along Pattaya Beach for the general public and tourists.
It's the third time City Hall announces a Free WiFi service during the last 10 years or so.
The last two times TOT Public Company Limited, a Thai state-owned telecommunications company, was responsible for the (failed) service.
This time City Hall claims that they made a 1-year contract with state enterprise CAT Telecom Plc.
According to Pol Maj Gen Pinit Maneerat CAT installed 24 hotspots along Pattaya Beach, from Dusit Thani to the Bali Hai pier area.
To use the Free WiFi users have to register with their personal details. In return they will get two hours of free access per day.
For its Thai citizens Pattaya City Hall published an instruction to register (automatically?) - but not for the City's real breadwinner - the tourists.
*On November 26th, a spokesman from City Hall corrected the press release and said that the City has to pay 14 million Baht/year for the 24 hotspots.
Unusable!
Our Testrun on November 25th shows that - at least for tourists - the announced service is not usable.
Using a smartphone communicating in another language as Thai it is impossible to do the required registration.
When connecting to @Pattaya City Free WiFi the display immediately asks for the passwort.
Moreover, the signal strength is satisfying only in front of a hotspot, in between it's mediocre and the signal is characterised by strong fluctuations with a maximum throughput of 1 Mbps.
The whole announcement of @Pattaya Free Wifi doesn't make sense.
It's nothing else than a bad joke!
Obviously the Government tries everything that Thailand remains a laughing stock
Update (December 1st):
Pattaya Mail writes that Surfing has taken on a whole new meaning on Pattaya Beach after the city launched free wireless internet access.
But they didn't check if the service is reliable - or not...
Immigration News
Important Notice
Since General Prayuth Chan-ocha and his Military Junta launched their Coup d'état on May 22nd, 2014, Thailand's Visa ground rules are constantly changing. More over, not every consulate can issue all the different Visas. Some smaller consulates even display notices to the effect that non-immigrant visas are unavailable.
Our advice: Before booking your holidays please contact the Embassy in your country to obtain information about Thailand's latest regulation(s) and check the Chonburi Immigration Website or the website of Thailand's Immigration Police.

Pattaya International Firework Festival 2018
Pattaya City Hall, managed by Thailand's Military Junta, and the Tourist Authority of Thailand (TAT) continue their stupid policy of last minute announcements of festivals.
The Pattaya International Firework Festival 2018 was officially announced on May 16th, 2018.
That's anything else but a professional management.

Songthaews replace Tourist Buses
Last month we reported that Thailand's National Council for Peace and Order (NCPO), Pattaya City and the committee for Southern Pattaya Pier Regulating ordered bus and boat operators to use Bali Hai Pier to pick-up and drop off tourists and to free Pattaya Beach Road from the daily chaos.
The media later reported that almost 80 percent of the speedboats using Pattaya Beach have moved to Bali Hai Pier.
The remaining 20 percent are still using Pattaya Beach Road to pick-up and drop off their tourists in front of the Hard Rock Hotel, but some of the tour operators replaced tour buses by Songthaews (Baht Buses).
It's no help. The drivers still block the lanes and are ignoring the designated bus stops...

Too much Arsenic in Rice and Rice Cakes
Too much Arsenic in Rice
Do not feed children with rice cake - it's just too dangerous
Last year, in our March Publication, we reported that Rice contains high levels of Arsenic.
In the meantime we have collected a lot of additional information about Rice and rice products.
All new reports published findings that rice contains disconcerting levels of inorganic arsenic, a carcinogen known to cause bladder, lung, and skin cancer in humans, with the liver, kidney, and prostate now considered potential targets of arsenic-induced cancers. And all reports claim that brown rice was found to have much higher arsenic levels than white rice!
That's what we learned so far:
  • Rice has higher levels of inorganic arsenic than other foods
  • Basmati rice contains lower levels than other rice
  • Brown rice usually contains more arsenic than white rice
  • Growing rice organically doesn’t make a difference to levels
  • Rice cakes and crackers can contain levels higher than in cooked rice
  • The levels of arsenic found in rice milk far exceed the amounts that would be allowed in drinking water
How to remove the most arsenic:
  • Soak your rice overnight – this opens up the grain and allows the arsenic to escape
  • Drain the rice and rinse thoroughly with fresh water
  • For every part rice add 5 parts water and cook until the rice is tender – do not allow it to boil dry
  • Drain the rice and rinse again with hot water to get rid of the last of the cooking water
Arsenic in rice after soak and rince
Before you even start cooking, there's a way to drastically reduce the amount of arsenic you ingest — choose something besides rice!
The Country's most tasteful Beer?
Snow(y) has come to Thailand
Thailand is known in the world as a country of expensive - but not tasty - beers.
Almost all beer enthusiasts in this region prefer the beer brewed in Cambodia over the one brewed in Thailand. Cambodian beers are not only a lot cheaper, they are also a lot tastier, they say.
So we were very skeptical when some of beer loving Farangs told us that at 7eleven they had discovered a really delicious Thai beer called Snowy.
Snowy is made by the Pathumthani Micro-Brewery* as a Belgian type Weissbier and is distributed by Singha, a company established in 1933.
Hence the description SNOWY Weizen by EST. 33.
At the time of writing the 4% ABV beer is available in 490 ml cans at 55 Baht. It is available in almost all 7eleven outlets - but often sold out very quickly ...
Some wholesalers also have the beer in stock.
* Pathumthani Brewery Co., Ltd. is owned by Boonrawd Brewery Co., Ltd, known as the distributor of Singha and Leo.
Please do not forget:
Beer can be tasty, but it isn't healthy!
New Banknotes
On April 6th the Bank of Thailand launched new banknotes bearing the portraits of King Vajiralongkorn.
The first set of notes in 20-, 50- and 100-Baht denominations was released on April 6, or Chakri Day. The 500 Baht and 1'000 Baht bills will come out three months later on the King's birthday of July 28.
In the long run, the new banknotes will replace the current banknotes that have displayed the face of King Bhumibol for 70 years.
New Banknote
Is Pattaya City Hall wasting 14 million Baht?
Obviously Pattaya City Hall is wasting 14 million Baht
On November 22nd, 2017, Pol Maj Gen Pinit Maneerat, the Military Junta's spokesman for Pattaya, announced that City Hall has installed a free WiFi system along Pattaya Beach for the general public and tourists.
Pattaya City Hall even published an instruction to register in Thai on its website.
Nevertheless, until today it's impossible to access the internet through @Pattaya City Free WiFi.
The 14 million Baht allegedly paid to state enterprise CAT Telecom Plc. for the 24 hotspots is a complete waste of Taxpayer's Money.
Update (March 31st, 2018): Pattaya City Free WiFi still does not work!
Update (April 4th, 2018): It is just another proof that most municipal Wi-Fi efforts end in disaster.

Dirty and stinky Tap Water in Pattaya
We don't care!
Stinking Tap Water in some parts of Pattaya
Since April 14th Pattaya's highly professional Provincial Waterworks Authority (PWA) delivers dirty tap water to houses, residences and hotels in some parts of this World Class City.
The water smells like fecal matter, but obviously nobody cares.
A Chemist told us:
Do not use Pattaya's water to clean your teeth.
Be careful and use Drinking Water when cleaning wounds and/or genitals.
Nevertheless, Pattaya's tap water is still less contaminated than the sea in front of this World Class Beach Resort...

Emergency Room
Midnight Pattaya
During August 2016 an Egicogroup announced a prestigious project on our old fashioned Walking Street.
To the left and to the right of the entrance to Soi BJ the company claimed it will built two modern glass palaces with Coyote Clubs, Bars, Night Clubs and a Hotel with a large parking space.
Midnight Pattaya also claimed that the first venues will open during 2016 and 2017.
With the exeption of the opening of a Restaurant (called The Terrace) and a Liqueur outlet (called Midnight Liqueur but already closed down) on Marine Plaza nothing ever happened. The whole area is still a (quiet) working place.

Nang Nual Beer Garden
Just at the time when Thailand's amazing Military Junta urged the country's lazy police to enforce harsh measures regulating the advertising and promotion of alcohol, Nang Nual opened a Beer Garden showing signs of the available beers brands...
During a recent meeting in Chang Mai, Second Lieutenant Taweesak Jintajiranan tried to help the media and the relevant businesses to understand the law. The authorities have to use an existing law, the Alcohol Control Act of 2008, to crack down, he said.
Under the newly enforced rules all alcohol products must carry government-approved health warnings, sales are banned to anyone under the age of 20 or anyone who is obviously drunk, and initiatives promoting alcohol – such as happy hours, free ice and mixers, and the use of beer girls – are banned.
Mobile bars or people wandering or driving around are banned to sell any kind of alcoholic drinks.
No drinking is allowed after midnight in bars or restaurants, even though sales have ended; no alcohol logos are allowed on glasses, ashtrays and other paraphernalia; and bars will not be allowed to display posters or bottles featuring logos of alcoholic products.
Alcohol logos – or even images accepted as representative of brands, such as a deer head for Benmore or red stars for Heineken – are not allowed to be displayed in sponsorship or any kind of advertising or promotion.
