Disorganized
During the last few years Pattaya's International Music Festival happened steadily during a weekend in the middle of March.
For 2012 the Pattaya's biggest event was announced for March 16th, March 17th and March 18th.
Just a few days before the festival should start the ladies from Pattaya's Call Centre (#1337) told us that the event will be relocated and will happen from March 30th until April 1st 2012.
Another few days later Pattaya Mayor Itthiphol Kunplome informed the press that the Pattaya International Music Festival 2012 will happen on 27th, 28th & 29th of April 2012.
Asked for the reason for, the Mayor said that the Tourism Authority of Thailand (also known as TAT) asked to move the festival from March 16-18 to March 30th - April 1st to include the event into its new Thailand Miracle Year campaign.
Another reason for the delay was the funeral of HRH Princess Bejaratana Rajasuda on April 9th, the Mayor said. City officials deemed it appropriate to postpone all recreational activities until after the funeral out of respect and mourning.
Therefore the City decided to relocate the festival to the end of April, Itthiphol said.
The Pattaya International Music Festival attracted a lot of people from all over Thailand, but a lot less Farangs than during the previous years.
Some Farangs complained that the festival doesn't provide music, only a lot of noise. But I was happy with the Reggae and SKA sounds distributed from the stage near the entry to Walking Street.
The streets of Pattaya were filled up with all kind of cars and came to a standstill throughout town for the whole weekend. Pattaya's Traffic Police was overextended or simply indistinguishable.
Pattaya doesn't have a concept to regulate the huge traffic and doesn't have enough of parking spaces to organize a big event like the Pattaya International Music Festival.
The disorganized event was 'organized' by Pattaya Mayor Itthiphol Kunplome and his brothers.
Garbage Cans?
Pattaya City Hall didn't place any garbage cans along Pattaya's Beach Road.
You had to dispose your PET-bottles right on the street or use the bins provided by FamilyMart and 7-ELEVEN.
The Officials from City Hall know to speak with Big Mouthes, but don't know how to organize and handle a big event.
Police blame
The local Police Divisions said they were not happy because of the major traffic congestion problems reported throughout the Pattaya area during the festival.
Police want better organized preparation meetings between Police and the organizers with more Police on-duty.
Police also blamed City Hall and the GMM-Grammy Company for lack of communication.
Police are confident that future events will not encounter problems faced during last weekends Festival - but perhaps new ones...
Pattaya News Flash discovered a lot, or even too much, Police Officers during the Festival, at least on Pattaya Beach Road and on the Loma Turnabout in North Pattaya, but they were in the mood to entertain themself...
