PM2.5 should not be taken lightly
The Thai Enquirer: As Thailand faces another season of escalating air pollution, residents are growing increasingly concerned about the health risks associated with PM2.5 particles.
Bangkok Post: People in northern Thailand, particularly in Chiang Mai and Lampang, face high mortality rates due to lung cancer. The Faculty of Medicine at Chiang Mai University has identified elevated levels of PM2.5 particles in the air as being one of the leading causes.
Thai PBS World: A pilot for Thai Airways International has given his perspective of the severity of the PM2.5 dust and smoke problem in Chiang Mai province.
When Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin visited the area in January, he was greeted with artificial rain so that he could praise the local authorities in his own way:
The Nation: Speaking to reporters after returning from Chiang Mai on Sunday, Srettha said a weather station in Chiang Mai measured PM2.5 at only 12 micrograms per cubic meter of air (µg/m3), which was far lower than previous levels of ultra-fine dust.
Thai PBS World: Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin approved the Move Forward party’s air cleanliness bill while in Chiang Mai province today, and has sent it back to parliament to be included on the agenda for debate.

Paxloid, an useless drug
Another expensive but useless drug from Pfizer
A new study published in The New England Journal of Medicine on April 3th, 2024, shows that Paxlovid, an expensive drug from Pfizer, does not relieve any symptoms.
The drug is approved by the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA). It is also approved in Canada, the United Kingdom and the European Union, showing that you should never trust these regulatory bodies.
This is not the first time that this company has marketed completely useless and sometimes even untested and/or dangerous products.

Thailand's Ministry of Tourism and Sports, in collaboration with the National Institute of Emergency Medicine, announced a new medical assistance initiative for foreign tourists worth 50 million baht (approximately USD 1.38 million). The programme aims to boost the safety and confidence of tourists and provides financial assistance in the unfortunate event of accidents, crimes or disasters during their visit, but only for tourists visiting Thailand between January 1st and August 31st, 2024, registered in the so-called Thailand Traveler Safety (TTS) scheme. Non-registered tourists will be left empty-handed.
The following services are allegedly covered by the TTS:
Medical aid coverage includes up to 1 million Baht in the event of death, up to 500,000 Baht for accident injury treatment, and 300,000 Baht for permanent disability or organ loss.
The programme does not cover incidents caused by carelessness or illegal actions by tourists, but aims to provide a safe and enjoyable experience for all visitors.

Bali Hai Pier covered!?
In an interview with The Pattaya News on March 21th, 2024, the deputy mayor of Pattaya expressed his confidence that the Bali-Hai pier will get a new roof before Songkran. During our visit a few days ago, however, there was still no sign of a roof, only a few roof supports could be seen where the large ships anchor.
At least the deputy mayor was so careful when making his statement that he did not mention a year.
So let's wait for Songkran 2025 or 2026.
Nevertheless, we will keep you up-to-date.
